    Abstract: An exemplary scalable helmet includes a base helmet having a lower edge, a ballistic portion removably attached to the base helmet, and a mounting portion including at least one connector. The mounting portion extends along a portion of the lower edge of the base helmet for connecting an accessory to the scalable helmet. The connector includes at least one restraining portion for restraining movement of the accessory attached to the base helmet. The mounting portion extends below a lower edge of the ballistic portion when the ballistic portion is attached to the base helmet, and the ballistic portion is removable from the base helmet without removing an accessory connected to the connector.
