Publication number: 20030027512Abstract: A fume hood includes a top, bottom sidewalls, front panel and a back panel that define an enclosed workspace. The fume hood also includes a movable sash for opening and closing an access opening. The fume hood also includes an air chamber having an inlet in the front panel. The air chamber includes a baffle system that evenly distributes the inlet air as the air travels through the air chamber. An unimpeded flow of air is discharged downward and away from the breathing zone of the technician and proximate to the sash to reduce the forward momentum of air trying to escape the fume hood. The fume hood provides a safe environment for the technician to work by enabling the fumes to stay contained in the fume hood under all working conditions. The air passes through the air chamber when the movable sash is positioned at a minimum height above the bottom of the fume hood.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2001Publication date: February 6, 2003Inventors: John M. Bastian, Jon Zboralski, Thomas A. Grall

Patent number: 4436022Abstract: An auxiliary air fume hood provided with an improved airflow system for controlling the passage of air through an auxiliary air housing and orienting the flow of air in front of the face of the hood. The hood is designed to capture the auxiliary air through the face of the hood when the temperature of said air is as much as 20.degree. F. higher than the room air temperature.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1981Date of Patent: March 13, 1984Assignee: Hamilton Industries, Inc.Inventors: Jon A. Zboralski, Harry N. Grow, Stephen E. Holschbach

Patent number: 4434711Abstract: A fume hood having top and rear baffle systems fixedly secured within a housing of the fume hood to provide a passage for lighter than air fumes along the top baffle and a passage for heavier than air fumes along the rear baffle. A movable damper selectively connects these passages with an exhaust of the fume hood, and this movable damper is remotely controlled from outside the fume hood adjacent the work area of the fume hood. An operator can control fume flow within the hood while the work area is closed by a sash.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1980Date of Patent: March 6, 1984Assignee: Hamilton Industries, Inc.Inventors: Jon A. Zboralski, Harry N. Grow

Patent number: 4399741Abstract: A method of controlling room air flow into a horizontal sash type laboratory fume hood. The method includes laterally moving a damper across a room air vent by means of horizontal motion of the sash so that the vent opens and closes in an inverse manner to the sash.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1979Date of Patent: August 23, 1983Assignee: Hamilton Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jon A. Zboralski
-
Patent number: 4399740Abstract: A laboratory fume hood with a horizontally slidable sash that is operatively coupled to and actuates a laterally movable damper in a manner inverse to sash movement. As the sash opens, the damper closes. Conversely, as the sash closes, the damper opens.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1979Date of Patent: August 23, 1983Assignee: Hamilton Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jon A. Zboralski

Patent number: 4385551Abstract: A laboratory fume hood with at least two vertically movable sashes that are operatively coupled together by a sash lock that prevents both of the sashes from being opened at the same time. Opening of one sash automatically flips a pivoted lock into locking engagement with the other sash. Thus, one of the sashes must be closed before the other can be opened. This prevents the excessive waste of heated or cooled room air being sucked out through the fume hood.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1980Date of Patent: May 31, 1983Assignee: Hamilton Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jon A. Zboralski

Patent number: 4269615Abstract: A filter assembly for filtering air comprises a filter housing and a filter which is removably positioned within the housing. The filter housing includes spaced-apart first and second housing portions which are connected by connecting members on opposite sides of the housing, and the filter is positioned between the two housing portions. One end of each of the connecting members is secured to the first housing portion, and the other end of each connecting member is connected to the second housing portion in a manner which permits the second housing portion to be moved along the connecting members toward and away from the first housing. When the second housing portion is moved away from the first housing portion, the filter can be removed.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1977Date of Patent: May 26, 1981Assignee: American Hospital Supply CorporationInventors: Jon A. Zboralski, Richard C. Tringali, Harry N. Grow

Patent number: 4177718Abstract: A fume hood with an air actuated valve system for directing a mixture of room and external air in front of a horizontal sash when such sash is open, and behind this sash when it is closed.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1978Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: American Hospital Supply CorporationInventors: Harry N. Grow, Jon A. Zboralski

Patent number: 4177717Abstract: A laboratory fume hood that has a lower baffle, intermediate baffle, and upper baffle spaced from each other and from a floor of the fume hood for directing fumes upwardly to an exhaust opening. The baffle system provides an inverted funnel configuration with the hood wall for improved gas sweeping action adjacent the hood floor.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1978Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: American Hospital Supply CorporationInventors: Harry N. Grow, Jon A. Zboralski
