  • Publication number: 20180096439
Abstract: A method of processing a utility consumption signal, comprising: monitoring an input utility consumption signal for a change in magnitude; if a change is detected: extracting a first portion of the input signal including the change; extracting a first set of features corresponding to the first portion; determining an event probability value for each of one or more utility consuming device state changes, the or each event probability value being determined from the first set of features and being the probability that the first portion of the signal corresponds to the change in state of the device; if none of the event probability values are above a first threshold value; searching for two or more plateaus in the first portion, wherein each pair of adjacent plateaus define a further change in magnitude of the signal between the plateaus; if two or more plateaus are detected: extracting a sub-portion of the signal corresponding to each of the further changes and each combination of the further changes; ext

  • Publication number: 20120272828
Abstract: The assemblies of the invention can comprise a fine fiber layer having dispersed within the fine fiber layer an active particulate material. Fluid that flows through the assemblies of the invention can have any material dispersed or dissolved in the fluid react with, be absorbed by, or adsorbed onto, the active particulate within the nanofiber layer. The structures of the invention can act simply as reactive, absorptive, or adsorptive layers with no filtration properties, or the structures of the invention can be assembled into filters that can filter particulate from a mobile fluid while simultaneously reacting, absorbing, or adsorbing materials from the mobile fluid.

  • Publication number: 20110064517
Abstract: A pavement such as a road, driveway, sidewalk, parking lot or the like, formed with pervious concrete material and one or more basalt reinforcing members embedded in or positioned below the pervious concrete material. The one or more basalt reinforcing members add structural rigidity to the pervious concrete, making the pervious concrete capable or supporting loads as normally experienced on pavements. The one or more basalt reinforcing members may be basalt rebar rods, or basalt rebar rods having a Figure-Eight shape, or a mesh made of basalt strands. In one example, the pavement may also include a layer of filtration fabric positioned below the basalt reinforcing members. Various methods are described for forming pavements, roads, driveways, sidewalks, parking lots or the like. Such a pavement allows water or moisture to pass through the surface of the pavement and be filtered. Such a pavement reduces flooding and the need for complex storm drainage systems adjacent to the pavement.

  • Patent number: 6997977
Abstract: A duct for passage of air therethough; one particular use for the duct is as a passage for intake air for a vehicle engine. The duct has an interior, adsorptive region that is adapted to remove contaminants from the air stream passing therethrough. The adsorptive region includes adsorptive material such as carbon (usually activated carbon), activated alumina, zeolites, metal oxides or ion exchange resin. The duct inhibits diffusion of uncombusted gasoline back through the duct from the engine, after the engine has been shut off.
