  • Patent number: 9384675
Abstract: A simulator for skill-oriented training is presented. The simulator includes a platform having a sensor and provides an immersive virtual training environment. The simulator includes a display unit worn by the operator. The unit includes a camera, a speaker and a unit sensor. The camera and the speaker provide visual and audio output to the operator. The simulator includes a controller and a data processing system. The controller includes a sensor. The sensors cooperate to provide to the processing system signals representing spatial positioning, angular orientation and movement data of the controller relative to the platform and a work piece. In response, the processing system renders the work piece, a virtual coating spray pattern, a virtual coating as applied to the work piece and performance guidance in the training environment.

Abstract: A simulator for skill-oriented training is presented. The simulator includes a platform having a platform sensor and provides a training environment depicting a work piece rendered on the platform. The simulator includes a display unit worn by a person operating the simulator. The unit includes a camera, a speaker and a unit sensor. The camera and the speaker provide visual and audio output to the person depicting the training environment. The simulator includes a controller and a data processing system. The controller is operated by the person and includes a controller sensor. The sensors cooperate to provide to the processing system signals representing spatial positioning, angular orientation and movement data of the controller relative to the platform. In response, the processing system renders the work piece, a virtual coating spray pattern, a virtual coating as applied to the work piece and performance guidance in the training environment.
