  • Patent number: 7241956
Abstract: A weighing system for a ladle transfer car is disclosed. For each wheel of the transfer car, a heat-resistant load cell designed to tolerate temperatures of at least 550 degrees Fahrenheit is mounted in axle block housings on each side of each wheel. Each load cell features a three-point mounting system on a top side and a bisected load application pad on a lower side. A load-concentration member bears against the load application pad. Each load cell and each load concentration member is constructed to be fitted into a relatively protected region between a top of an axle block and a top of an axle block housing within the structure of a transfer car.

  • Patent number: 6596949
Abstract: A tank weighing assembly includes a shear-web load cell in the form of an annular disk, a supporting base plate and components for mounting the load cell in a manner such as to enable compensation for effects of exposure to forces of the wind and thermal expansion. The load cell and a mounting washer each have an axial aperture through which a connecting bolt extends. The bolt has a countersunk head inclined at an angle of 45 to 50 degrees and an adjacent wall has an angle 3 degrees larger. A gap of ⅛th inch on each side of the bolt is provided to allow a small amount of lateral movement. Mating arcuate surfaces at the bottom of the load cell hub and at the top of the mounting washer enable self alignment.

  • Patent number: 6441324
Abstract: A system for weighing railroad cars and their load is disclosed. In virtually all railroad cars, there exists a disk on a bottom of a railroad car that fits or interfaces with a well in a wheel truck assembly at each end of the railroad car. A load cell is constructed having one surface to bear against the bottom of the disk on the railroad car, and an opposite surface for bearing against a bottom surface of the well in the wheel truck assembly. The output of the load cell is provided to a telemetry transmitter, which transmits an indication of weight to an operator of a crane or other loading appartus loading the railroad car.
