    Abstract: Elements of the present invention relate to methods and systems for estimating an image illuminant model. In some embodiments, color gamut models for a plurality of candidate illuminants are calculated and compared to an image color gamut by determining a distance match metric for each of the candidate illuminants with reference to the image color gamut. An image illuminant may then be selected from the plurality of candidate illuminants based on the distance match metric.
