Patent number: 7115014Abstract: A toy animal having a rigid body with movable legs, head and tail, is operated by internal gear mechanisms powered by a single, reversible, battery-powered motor operated in different directions. A hand controller is attached to the body to actuate the single motor in a selected direction to either move a plurality of legs to cause movement of the body while wagging the animal's tail, and to then cause the toy animal to urinate, or to move the head and actuate a tongue held in the head to lick a person holding the toy animal, or ingest fluid. The toy animal may also include a speaker and related circuitry that is actuated to cause the toy animal to make sounds, such as a bark, panting, a whimper and/or a tinkling sound at appropriate times.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2004Date of Patent: October 3, 2006Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Tara McGrath, Kevin W. Gray, Ok-Soo Choi, Sam Tsui, Jon Marine

Publication number: 20060141899Abstract: A method of insert molding a preformed item into a molded product, the molded product being formed by injecting a moldable material into a mold, is disclosed. The method includes adhering the preformed item to a surface of the mold with an adhesive, wherein the surface to which the preformed item is adhered is free of any features provided for holding the preformed item in place on the mold surface. The method next includes injecting the moldable material into the mold such that the moldable material at least partially surrounds the preformed item, and curing the moldable material. Articles molded via the disclosed method are also described.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2006Publication date: June 29, 2006Inventor: Jon Marine

Publication number: 20050239368Abstract: A toy doll may include a body supported by a skeletal structure including one or more joint assemblies. A joint assembly may include a pivot block further including a pivot stop, and a joint member rotatably coupled to the pivot block, the joint member further including a stop protrusion configured to engage the pivot stop upon rotation of the joint member in a predetermined direction, wherein engagement of the pivot stop prevents further rotation of the joint member in a predetermined direction, wherein the joint member is moveable through a predetermined range of motion transverse to the plane of rotation of the joint member, and wherein movement of the joint member transverse to the plane of rotation allows the stop protrusion to bypass the pivot stop.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2005Publication date: October 27, 2005Inventors: Jon Marine, Joe Ward, Elizabeth Libretti

Patent number: 6955363Abstract: A toy shopping cart has a basket and seat that may be used for different functions and which are easily removed from and reattached to a frame of the shopping cart. The frame of the toy shopping cart has a pair of leg assemblies with four wheels and a number of cross-members with a holding channel formed on one of the cross-members to removably support the basket by a rim and the seat by a holding member in position at the front and the rear of the frame. The basket includes a housing with a base that is supported by a second of the cross-members when held in the frame.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2003Date of Patent: October 18, 2005Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Elizabeth A. Libretti, Frederick Loh Man Wai, Jon Marine

Publication number: 20050191935Abstract: Embodiments of toy dolls and doll stands are disclosed, in which a user input applied to the doll or stand may generate motion in the stand and/or doll to animate the doll and/or stand. In some embodiments, a users' input motion may be stored in a compression or expansion member, such as a spring, and gradually released to actuate motion of one or more parts of the stand and/or doll. In some embodiments, the dolls and stands can be separate or for use with each other, the same stand usable for multiple dolls. In some embodiments, the doll may be powered to move independent of the stand.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2004Publication date: September 1, 2005Inventors: Jon Marine, Mark Wittenberg, Debbie Glassberg

Publication number: 20050191936Abstract: A toy doll is described having a first member and a second member coupled to said first member. The said second member can slidably and/or rotatably move relative to said first member, said second member comprising an armature, an element coupled to said armature, said element being more compliant than said armature, and a molded form around at least said armature and element to simulate a body part with a bendable joint. In another embodiment, the doll includes a body member, where the body member has electronics configured to selectively energize a light emitting source exposed through said body member and a platform configured to enable removable coupling of an accessory to said body member, where said source illuminates at least portions of said accessory.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2005Publication date: September 1, 2005Inventors: Jon Marine, Mark Wittenberg, Debbie Glassberg

Patent number: 6139397Abstract: A doll head supports a pair of retracting mechanisms which provide a rotating spool upon which a quantity of hair forming a hair bundle is wound. The retracting mechanisms are operated in response to the child user squeezing the extending portion of the mechanisms at the base of the hair bundles in a simulated hair-cutting action. Each squeeze of the simulated scissors triggers an incremental spring-driven retraction of the hair bundle thereby shortening the hair bundle and simulating hair-cutting. A releasable latch mechanism operative within the retracting mechanisms allows the hair bundles to be drawn outwardly to their maximum length to repeat the hair-cutting cycle.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2000Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Judith H. Blau, Gregory E. Hyman, Jon Marine
