    Abstract: A method and apparatus for passively determining the range of a radiating source that is in a state of motion with respect to an observer. In one embodiment of the invention the range is determined in accordance with the bearing rate of the radiating source, the bearing acceleration of the radiating source, the frequency of the received radiation, the frequency rate of the received radiation, and the velocity of the radiation through a medium. In another embodiment of the invention the range is determined in accordance with the bearing rate of the radiating source, the bearing acceleration of the radiating source, the fractional frequency rate of the received radiation, and the velocity of the radiation through the medium.
