    Abstract: A method for improving effectiveness of a steam generator system includes providing a steam generator system including a steam generator vessel, an air supply system and an air preheater. The air supply system is in communication with the steam generator vessel through the air preheater and the steam generator vessel is in communication with the air preheater. The air supply system provides a first amount of air to the air preheater. At least a portion of the first amount of air is provided to the steam generator vessel. A flue gas mixture is discharged from the steam generator vessel. At least a portion of the flue gas mixture flows into the air preheater. SO3 in the flue gas mixture is mitigated before the flue gas mixture enters the air preheater.

The design is based on a horizontal co-current scrubber capable of generating a pressure rise across the absorber. Modifications to existing plant equipment are minimized by the co-current horizontal scrubber design. The system includes features, which eliminate much equipment typically associated with other FGD designs, and reduces the use of support equipment such as tanks, agitators, and pumps. It also minimizes or eliminates the need for new buildings.

    Abstract: A method for smoothing the gas flow profile in a duct or pipe in a system wherein the average gas velocity is greater than ten feet per second, comprising positioning within the duct or pipe and across the gas flow, a perforated plate wherein the openings thereof are hexagonal in shape, enabling the use of smaller holes than would otherwise be achievable with the use of round holes for the same pressure drop across the plate, which results in a higher degree of gas velocity profile smoothing for a given pressure drop across the plate.

    Abstract: A scrubber system is provided which enables a substantially horizontal flow path for the gas which is being subjected to scrubbing. Among other advantages, this permits operation of the absorber with a differential pressure of zero or less. Scrubber composition spray means are positioned in the horizontal gas flow path for spraying an aqueous scrubber composition in a direction which is generally cocurrent with said gas flow. The system is free of means which spray the scrubber composition in directions countercurrent to said gas flow.
