    Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for managing interference are presented. The interference may be between i) a fixed wireless link, FL, formed by a first FL node and a second FL node which communicate at a frequency f1 and ii) a radio access network, RAN, node. The method may comprise the first FL node monitoring radio link quality, QL, of fixed wireless link signals at f1. The first FL node may determine whether QL is worse than a predetermined QL threshold. If QL is worse than the predetermined QL threshold, the first FL node may measure, during a silent period, how much one or more signals transmitted from the RAN node 108 interferes with the first FL node at the f1. The first FL node may transmit, to an interference mitigation controller, interference measurement information which indicates how much the RAN node interferes with the first FL node at f1.

The disclosure relates to a method, performed in a first node in a wireless communication system, of accessing a shared media for directive signal transmission from the first node, the method comprises three steps. The first step is receiving, from a second node, a pilot signal announcing a directive signal transmission to or from the second node. The second step is predicting based on information in the received pilot signal, a collision rate between an intended directive signal transmission from the first node and the announced directive signal transmission, the information defining the channel resources used by the announced directive signal transmission and the third step is accessing the shared media based on the predicted collision rate.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein that relate to the use of a Device-to-Device (D2D) sidelink, e.g., in a licensed spectrum, to assist with clear channel assessment in an unlicensed spectrum. In doing so, the hidden node problem and/or the exposed node problem can be mitigated. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a wireless device in a cellular communications network comprises performing a sidelink-assisted clear channel assessment (SLA-CCA) procedure to determine whether to transmit on an unlicensed channel. The SLA-CCA procedure is a Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) procedure that is assisted by information received by the wireless device from one or more other wireless devices over a D2D sidelink in a licensed spectrum. The method further comprises, upon determining to transmit on the unlicensed channel as a result of performing the SLA-CCA procedure, transmitting a transmission on the unlicensed channel.

The method for performing a transmission to the receiving wireless comprises identifying a control channel of the frequency resource; and contending, at the control channel, for resources on a data channel of the frequency resource. When the contention for resources is successful, the method further comprises transmitting data to the receiving wireless device on the data channel of the frequency resource, wherein the control channel and data channel operate on separate frequencies of the frequency resource.

In some embodiments, a method of operation of a node of a wireless communications system comprises determining a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) that is optimized for MTC for one of an uplink from a MTC device to a base station and a downlink from the base station to the MTC device, and using the MCS with respect to the one of the uplink from the MTC device to the base station and the downlink from the base station to the MTC device. By optimizing the MCS, power consumption by the MTC device and/or latency can be reduced.

The busy indication is an indication that another wireless device is transmitting in the unlicensed spectrum. The method further comprises determining whether to transmit in the unlicensed spectrum based on whether the wireless device has detected a busy indication transmitted in the licensed spectrum. By using signals in the licensed spectrum, the hidden node problem and/or the exposed node problem in the unlicensed spectrum can be mitigated.

The radio resource manager can request that the spectrum controller perform an access negotiation for a partially available channel. Based on the result of the negotiation, the radio resource manager may re-route information in the network.
