  • Patent number: 6789642
Abstract: The present invention relates to a LCD display that has a thin depth, rigid enclosure and includes a thin speaker so that the depth of the enclosure does not have to be increased to accommodate the speaker. The speaker is used to generate audio output that may correlate to the graphical information displayed on the LCD display. The enclosure has an opening for inclusion of a semi-rigid lens for viewing of an internal LCD module that is also used as a planar surface for the thin speaker. In order to provide a thin device in the enclosure that is driven by a driver to move air to generate sound, the driver is attached to the semi-rigid lens.

  • Patent number: 6546882
Abstract: An automated payment system for use in a service station. The system includes at least one fuel dispenser for dispensing fuel and having a user interface for directing how payment for the fuel is to be processed. The system also includes a payment terminal positioned in proximity to the fuel dispenser for receiving the payments. The terminal has rigid outer walls forming an enclosed interior section for housing the payments. In one embodiment, the terminal has rigid outer walls forming a substantially H-shape with two indents positioned on the exterior of the payment terminal. A pair of support posts are firmly mounted within the indents for securing the payment terminal in position. Mounting mechanisms may attach the payment terminal to the support post and be positioned such that they are contained within the terminal and post to restrict access.

  • Patent number: 6493440
Abstract: The present invention relates to a thermal management system for a thin depth LCD display enclosure. The LCD display enclosure may be used in environmentally sensitive conditions and may be environmentally-sealed to protect the components of the LCD display from environmental conditions. The LCD display components may include a lens and a LCD module, and other heating producing components, such as backlights and electronic circuitry. The heat producing components and any external heat placed on the enclosure causes the ambient air temperature inside the enclosure to rise thereby possibly causing the LCD display to not operate properly. The ambient air temperature inside the enclosure is lowered by transferring heat in the ambient air through the enclosure to a heat sink that is attached on the outside rear portion of the enclosure, and to the atmosphere using forced convection, natural convention, or both.

  • Publication number: 20020154068
Abstract: The present invention is related to a display that is added-on to a fuel dispenser for displaying information to a user of the fuel dispenser and that meets regulatory guidelines. An display attached to an arm is added on to a fuel dispenser. The arm contains wiring to couple the display to the electronics and/or control system inside the fuel dispenser. The arm is configured so that the wiring does not go through or cross a classified area of the fuel dispenser so that special potting and/or conduits are not required on the arm for the wiring.

  • Patent number: 5996888
Abstract: A tamper-resistant cash acceptor for paper currency is provided for use with dispensing apparatus, and more particularly fuel dispensing apparatus. The tamper-resistant cash acceptor comprises a cash acceptor with forwardly removable cash cassette, a mounting bracket, a door actuator mechanism, and a locking mechanism. The cash acceptor can be moved relative to the mounting bracket from a forwardly oriented operating position to a lowered and rearwardly oriented cash cassette removal position and cash acceptor servicing position by movement of the door actuator mechanism from an upright and closed position to a laterally extending and open position. The locking mechanism is operatively associated with the door actuator mechanism and serves to interlockingly engage together the door actuator mechanism, the mounting bracket, and the cash acceptor when the cash acceptor is positioned in its forward and raised operating position in order to prevent access to the cash acceptor.
