  • Patent number: 10285837
Abstract: One or more medical devices may be provided that may be used, for example, in bariatric surgery including a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Occlusion devices can be integrated with a catheter or tube to occlude one or more proximal or distal landmarks of a stomach and a stapling guide may be used to occlude a lateral boundary of the stomach to define a cavity. A volume of the potential resultant sleeve may be determined by inserting fluid or gas into the catheter or tube, measuring pressure, and calculating the volume of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 10149021
Abstract: A method includes receiving and processing an electronic signal that represents television content to provide a first media signal that is playable to present a forward-playback of the television content. The method also includes, responsive to a first instruction, providing a second media signal that is playable to present a reverse-playback of the television content, and recording a portion of the television content that corresponds to the reverse-playback. Further, the method includes, responsive to a second instruction, stopping the recording of the television content. In addition, the method includes, responsive to a third instruction, saving one or more recorded portions of the television content. The method also includes, responsive to receiving a fourth instruction, communicating the saved recording of the television content to a separate computing device.

  • Patent number: 10085838
Abstract: An instrument for assembling an implant on a neck. The implant and neck being coupled via a taper having a taper axis. The instrument includes a frame having a distal portion and a proximal portion, the distal portion of the frame including a retaining member adapted to engage a portion of the neck. The instrument also includes a force applier retained in the proximal portion of the frame. The force applier includes a screw having a screw axis that is coaxial with the taper axis, wherein the screw is adapted to engage the implant. As the screw is turned, the force applier applies a force on the implant while the neck is held in place by the frame, thereby causing the tapers of the implant and neck to engage.

  • Patent number: 9936953
Abstract: An end effector for use by a surgeon to staple an anatomical structure of a patient during a minimally invasive procedure includes an anvil and a cartridge. The ends of the cartridge are coupled to the ends of the anvil. Each of the anvil and the cartridge is insertable through a trocar. The end effector is operable from outside the patient. A stapling device includes the end effector coupled to a manipulator via a shaft. The manipulator is accessible to the surgeon. The surgeon uses a clamping mechanism to selectively move the anvil and the cartridge to clamp the anatomical structure. A flexible member extends through the shaft and is coupled to at least one of the anvil and the cartridge and to the clamping mechanism. Operating the clamping mechanism withdraws the flexible member (46) from the end effector and clamps the anatomical structure between the anvil and the cartridge.

  • Publication number: 20170290588
Abstract: An end effector for use by a surgeon to staple an anatomical structure of a patient during a surgical procedure includes an anvil and a cartridge. Each of the anvil and the cartridge has a face that is positionable on the anatomical structure. The anvil is coupled to the cartridge at first and second ends. The anvil is movable relative to the cartridge to define a first gap between the faces at the first ends that is different from a second gap between the faces at the second ends.

  • Patent number: 9640218
Abstract: Physiological cues, such as elevated heart or respiratory rates can be masked from video of a person before the video is sent to another party. The masking of human-perceptible and non-human-perceptible physiological cues removes information from the video that another party could use to determine the person's emotional state. For example, variations in a person's skin color that are typically imperceptible to the human eye and from which a person's heart rate can be detected, can be removed or altered so that another party viewing the video cannot determine the person's actual heart rate in an attempt to determine the person's emotional state, even if they are performing computer analysis on the video. The presence of some physiological cues can be determined by detecting that a physiological measure is above a specified physiological measure threshold.

  • Publication number: 20170013289
Abstract: Embodiments described herein may provide for facilitating management of recorded digital video. An example method may involve a computing device (a) initiating playback of a recorded digital video file, (b) during playback of the recorded digital video file, receiving a request to stop playback, (c) responsive to receiving the request: (i) determining a stop point in the recorded digital video file and (ii) initiating a prompt asking whether or not to delete a portion of the recorded digital video file preceding the stop point, (d) responsive to the prompt, receiving a request to delete the portion preceding the stop point, and (e) responsively deleting the portion. In a further aspect, the computing device may also provide for display a visual representation of the stop point, an amount of the digital video file preceding the stop point, and an amount of the digital video file remaining after the stop point.
