Patent number: 11997280Abstract: An apparatus includes an encoder, which receives image or video data, encodes the data and provides a bitstream representing the data. The encoder includes a CABAC encoder, which receives a binary valued syntax element associated with a block of the data to be encoded, and encodes, using a selected context model, the syntax element into coded bits for the bitstream. The syntax element includes a tool flag indicating whether or not certain coding tool, like linear weighted intra prediction, is employed when encoding a block of the data. For a block of the data which exhibits an aspect ratio larger than 2 and for a block of the data which exhibits an aspect ratio less than or equal to 2, and to which blocks the certain coding tool is applicable, first and second context models for encoding the tool flag are selected from a group of one or more first and second context models, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2021Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.Inventors: Jonathan Pfaff, Philipp Helle, Michael Schäfer, Tobias Hinz, Björn Stallenberger, Philipp Merkle, Heiko Schwarz, Detlev Marpe, Thomas Wiegand

Patent number: 11996535Abstract: Disclosed are electrochemical reactors with electrodes that have variable porosity across the electrode. The electrodes are designed and micro-architected to have variable porosity and 3D flow. In one aspect, an electrochemical cell apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes an electrochemical vessel and an electrochemical fluid contained in the electrochemical vessel. The apparatus further includes a porous electrode submerged in the electrochemical fluid in the electrochemical vessel, the porous electrode having different porosities in different areas of the porous electrode. The different porosities inhibit electrochemical fluid flow and increase electrical conductivity in first areas of the porous electrode with decreased porosity compared to second areas, and enable increased electrochemical fluid flow and decrease electrical conductivity in the second areas of the porous electrode with increased porosity compared to the first areas.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2022Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL SECURITY, LLCInventors: Victor Alfred Beck, Sarah Baker, Jonathan Tesner Davis, Eric Duoss, Daniel Tortorelli, Seth Evan Watts, Marcus A. Patent number: 11995759Abstract: In examples, the number of rays used to sample lighting conditions of a light source in a virtual environment with respect to particular locations in the virtual environment may be adapted to scene conditions. An additional ray(s) may be used for locations that tend to be associated with visual artifacts in rendered images. A determination may be made on whether to cast an additional ray(s) to a light source for a location and/or a quantity of rays to cast. To make the determination variables such as visibilities and/or hit distances of ray-traced samples of the light source may be analyzed for related locations in the virtual environment, such as those in a region around the location (e.g., within an N-by-N kernel centered at the location). Factors may include variability in visibilities and/or hit distances, differences between visibilities and/or hit distances relative to the location, and magnitudes of hit distances.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2021Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: NVIDIA CorporationInventor: Jonathan Paul Story

Patent number: 11992124Abstract: A range limiter to secure or position a adjustable height, foldable table at a particular height. A two-way spring-loaded plunger is positioned at the end of a leg for engagement with a stop component. The stop component is affixed to the bottom of the table top. When the leg is in a storage position, the plunger is pushed outward preventing the table leg from opening too far. The two springs have different forces or strengths associated with them. An extension section of the leg pushes against a heavy spring when the table is collapsed, thereby pushing the plunger outward. A light spring keeps the plunger withdrawn when the leg is extended.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2022Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: Evo Inventions LLCInventors: Christopher Lundin, Evan Einbender Aamodt, Michael A.
