  • Patent number: 7261723
Abstract: A surgical assembly is provided including a surgical passer having a wire portion coupled to a handle, with the wire portion having a free distal end, an outer periphery, and at least one recess therein in a distal end region. The assembly further includes a tube element having a proximal end, a tissue penetrating distal end, and a channel extending therein from an opening at the proximal end and defined by an inner periphery. The channel has at least one projection projecting outwardly into the channel in a distal end region thereof. The outer periphery of the surgical passer is dimensioned relative to the inner periphery of the channel of the tube element so that the surgical passer is positionable within the tube element, and when so positioned, the at least one tube element projection engages the at least one surgical passer recess to removably couple the surgical passer to the tube element.

  • Patent number: 5441539
Abstract: Apparatus for depositing a cell product, such as endothelial cell product, in a graft and inserting the graft in a vessel is disclosed. The apparatus preferably comprises a tunneler tube that has a hollow portion for supporting the graft therein, apertures to permit the flow of cell product, and a pointed end cap attached to a distal end of the tunneler tube. The apparatus also has a handle connected to the graft and releaseably connected to a proximal end of the tunneler tube that provides an inlet for cell product and outlet in fluid communication with the lumen of the graft. During deposition, the cell product thus flows through the handle, into the graft and exits through the apertures. During insertion, the tunneler tube is manipulated by the handle to enter a vessel, and is then released from the handle and removed to accommodate anastomoses.

  • Patent number: 4759751
Abstract: A catheter assembly comprises a flexible tube having a liquid-receiving lumen therethrough. The tube has a proximal end for receiving liquid into the lumen and has a closed, but penetrable, distal end. The catheter assembly also comprises an adapter which includes a body operatively, but preferably removably, positioned on the distal end of the tube. A hollow cannula is mounted in and supported by an air purging element, so that the cannula extends through a passageway in the body and through the distal end of the tube in fluid communication with the lumen. The cannula provides a path to the outside environment for purging air from the lumen as liquid is introduced into the lumen. The distal end is sealable to retain liquid within the lumen after the air purging member is removed from the tube.
