  • Patent number: 8409291
Abstract: A spinal implant particularly adapted for lateral expansion while disposed in the disc space between adjacent vertebrae. The implant includes a first frame member pivotally linked to a second frame member via at least one, and preferably multiple, pivoting links. The implant may be inserted into the disc space in a collapsed configuration using a lateral approach, and then expanded in the anterior-posterior direction (lateral to insertion direction) to a deployed configuration where the first and second frame members are farther apart. The implant may be expanded by holding one frame member and pushing on the other frame member or one or more proximal links linking the two frame members.

  • Patent number: 8268002
Abstract: An implant for insertion between adjacent vertebral members, comprising an implant body with a base section having positioning teeth, and an end cap adapted for positioning at a selected point on the base section via adjustment of an approach direction. The end cap comprises a seating surface adapted to contact the base section when positioned on the implant body, an end cap angulation, and positioning passages adapted to receive the positioning teeth. The implant may further comprise a locking mechanism adapted to lockingly engage the end cap and base section and prevent axial movement of the end cap. The positioning passages and positioning teeth are complementarily configured to facilitate slideably positioning the end cap on the base section. The implant body and end cap combination will impart end cap angulation to an adjacent vertebral body at the selected point when the implant is positioned in the intervertebral space.

  • Publication number: 20120197402
Abstract: An implant for spacing apart skeletal structures. The implant includes a base, a rotatable member, and a connector. The base extends around at least a portion of the member, and the member is pivotally connected to the base by the connector. The member includes a first pair of opposing sides that have a first height that is smaller than or equal to a height of the base, and a second pair of opposing sides that have a second height larger than the base. The member is movable to a first rotational position with the first pair of opposing sides facing in the same direction as the sides of the base such that the member is shorter than or equal to the base. The member is also movable to a second rotational position with the second pair of opposing sides facing in the same direction as the sides of the base such that the member is taller than the base.

  • Patent number: 8177846
Abstract: An implant for insertion between adjacent vertebral members, comprising an implant body with at least one base section and an end cap. The end cap is adapted for selective positioning on a base section via rotational adjustment of the end cap. The end cap comprises an exterior contact surface that faces away from the implant body when positioned on the base section, a seating surface which contacts the base section when positioned on the implant body, an end cap angulation, and locking passages extending between the exterior contact surface and seating surface and adapted to receive base section teeth. The locking passages and base teeth are complimentarily configured to engage and securely maintain the end cap positioned on the base section such that the implant imparts the end cap angulation to an adjacent vertebral body at a selected point when the implant is positioned between adjacent vertebral members.

  • Patent number: 8012188
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that include a plate member engageable to the spinal column with an anchor assembly. The anchor assembly includes a coupling member having a post extending through at least one opening of the plate member and an anchor member pivotally captured in a receiver member of the coupling member below a lower surface of the plate member.
