  • Patent number: 8795398
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for the gasification of liquid fuels, involving: (a) a nozzle for atomizing and feeding a liquid fuel into a mixing region; (b) an inlet for feeding an oxidizer into the mixing region; (c) the mixing region for mixing the atomized fuel with the oxidizer; (d) a radiation hot box for vaporizing the liquid fuel, the radiation hot box comprising an ignition source positioned inside coiled catalytic reactor; (e) the coiled catalytic reactor comprising a coiled metal screen providing for a radial flow path from an inner diameter to an outer diameter of the coiled metal screen and providing for a plurality of void volumes in random order along the flow path from the inner diameter to the outer diameter; and (f) an outlet for exiting a gaseous reformate.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 5, 2014
    Assignee: Precision Combustion, Inc.
Inventors: Subir Roychoudhury, Maxim Lyubovsky, Jonathan D. Berry
  • Patent number: 8689559
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention provides a method and system of operating a combustion system that has Lean direct injection (LDI) functionality. The method and system provides a passive cooling system for an injector of the LDI system. The method and system may also provide a means to direct the flow of the fluid exiting the injector of the LDI system.

Date of Patent: April 8, 2014
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Gilbert O. Kraemer, Jonathan D. Berry, Richard F. Keyser
  • Patent number: 8448443
Abstract: A gas turbine combustor liner has at least one circumferential row of air holes adapted to supply air in a radial direction into a combustion chamber within the liner. One or more of the air holes have a thimble fixed therein, the thimble having a substantially circular body and a pair of lips extending from an interior end of the thimble in diametrically opposed upstream and downstream directions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 11, 2007
Date of Patent: May 28, 2013
    Assignee: General Electric Company

  • Patent number: 6612830
Abstract: The invention is a method and apparatus for purging an oxidant or residual fuel by controlled oxidation within a closed loop system. The particular application disclosed can operate to purge oxygen from an anode loop of a fuel cell just prior to startup, and can also operate to consume the remaining hydrogen or fuel at shutdown. The method employs the addition of additional fuel to a feed stream within the anode loop to a level that will through oxidation within the apparatus deplete the desired amount of oxygen. The method also employs the addition of air into a hydrogen feed loop that through oxidation within the apparatus consumes the hydrogen. Oxidation is accomplished first by diffusion burning and then catalysis to accomplish the depletion quickly. The method and apparatus eliminates the need for a separately stored inert gas purge tank and associated systems.
