  • Publication number: 20230089007
Abstract: An oxidized zinc pigment has been developed that can be used in a waterborne coating. The zinc metal allows for improved stability in waterborne systems while retaining the level of activity required for an anticorrosive material. This pigment is oxidized enough to prevent corrosion and still be dispersed in the waterborne coating, while still allowing for cathodic and anodic corrosion protection in the coating once applied to a metal surface. This zinc pigment may also be used in a waterborne ink or coating system and also for coated metal articles.

  • Patent number: 10675225
Abstract: A soft-focus composition comprises particles. The particles comprise a substrate with a metal oxide coating. The metal oxide coating covers from about 50% to about 75% of the surface area of the substrate. The particles have a span of from about 0.1 to about 2.1. From about 50% to about 75% of the particles are platelet shaped and the remainder are at least one different shape. This soft-focus composition can be used in cosmetic and personal care formulations to impart a soft-focus effect on the skin to hide fine lines and blemishes while allowing the natural glow of the skin to shine through.

  • Patent number: 10513615
Abstract: A pigment pellet preparation, comprises one or more effect pigment and one or more thermosetting resin. The effect pigment is dispersed in the thermosetting resin. The thermosetting resin has 3 or more reactive terminal groups and has an acid number from about 10 to about 50 mg KOH/g resin. The preparation comprises from about 70% to about 90% by weight of one or more effect pigment and from about 5% to about 35% by weight of one or more thermosetting resin. The pigment and thermosetting resin comprise about 95% or more of the preparation. The pellets have a diameter of about 0.5 mm to about 5 mm and a length of about 1 mm to about 5 cm.

  • Publication number: 20190292373
Abstract: In the present application, we report a pigment preparation comprised of an aluminum pigment, a dispersing additive and a solvent, that can either 1) reach high, >10% solids with favorable rheology; 2) be formulated into high alcohol systems; or 3) both. The pigment preparation of the present application has better formulation flexibility than other VMP aluminum pigment slurries currently available on the market.

  • Patent number: 9243147
Abstract: The oxidized aluminum pigment comprises not more than 95% by weight metallic aluminum, wherein the pigment is a flaky particle, and has a color travel from the hue angle range of about 50° to about 100° at the aspecular observation angle of 15° to a hue angle range of about 200° to about 270° at the aspecular observation angle of 110°. The oxidized aluminum pigment may be made by the steps of: providing a flaky aluminum pigment, and oxidizing the aluminum pigment in a water-in-oil emulsion comprising a surfactant in the presence of a base. The water-in-oil emulsion comprises a mixture of water dispersed in a hydrocarbon solvent. The aluminum pigment is predominantly in the hydrocarbon solvent during the oxidation step, and the amount of water in the mixture is in the range of about 5% to about 40% of the total weight of the emulsion.
