  • Patent number: 8204883
Abstract: Systems and methods of determining genre information are provided. A particular method includes receiving a first data set including a plurality of genre descriptors and associated strength values related to particular content. Each strength value indicates a degree to which the associated genre descriptor describes the particular content. The method also includes storing a data record associating the first data set with the particular content.

  • Patent number: 7028086
Abstract: Ingress to egress network traffic ratios are determined for at least some devices within a network and server-like devices are selected on the basis of the determined ratios or a figure derived from the determined ratios. Selecting the server-like devices includes the step of selecting those devices having a value of ratio above a selected value and includes ranking the devices in order of their ratios and determining discontinuities in the values of the ratios of the ranked devices. The server-like devices are connected to a port of another device and the ingress to egress network traffic ratio is determined by determining the network traffic through the port using SNMP.

  • Patent number: 6862286
Abstract: In a computer network of devices, at least some of the devices (i.e. the DCHP devices) have a static (e.g. MAC) address which does not change over time and a dynamic (e.g. IP) address which may change over time. There is disclosed a method and computer program for mapping the static address and dynamic address for the devices comprising polling said devices using said IP addresses and during said polling determining the MAC addresses of the devices, and providing a set of mapped static and dynamic addresses, said method including repeating the steps of the method at intervals. Using the method of the invention, it is possible, when entering a particular conversation in a database, to access the IP addresses, to determine which is the current DHCP device that address maps to, and assign the conversation to that device and store it in the database assigned to that device. Therefore, for each DHCP device, one can store a history of the conversations or traffic involved in that device.

  • Patent number: 6718346
Abstract: Apparatus and method for use in a network of, for example, computers, for generating summary data, such as traffic summary information, from a plurality of data records, the data records having a different temporal basis, for example, one hour or one day or one week, and different start and end times. The summary data is generated for a requested time interval having a requested start time and a requested end time by selecting a data record with a record start time corresponding to the requested start and an end time as far as possible from the record start time but equal to or before the requested end time. The data from that selected data record is processed, and the initial time is then set to the end time of that particular data record and the process repeated. In this way one can gather and process such data with a minimum number of steps.

  • Patent number: 6704016
Abstract: A method graphically presents a selected group of data values of a series of data values in a predetermined presentation area. The largest data value within the selected group of data values is determined. A scaling factor for the determined largest data value to correspond with a lateral dimension of the presentation area is determined. The determined scaling factor is applied to all the data values in the group of data values. The scaled group of data values within the presentation area is graphically presented. Advantageously, the graphical presentation of the data values is scaled according to the data presented in the presentation area, thus maximizing the detail shown in the graphical representation. The method is preferably implemented in the form of a computer program.

  • Publication number: 20020174221
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program for automated detection of server-like devices within a network, comprising the steps of determining the ingress to egress network traffic ratio for at least some of the devices and selecting the server-like devices on the basis of said determined ratios or a figure derived from said ratios.
