Publication number: 20250060689Abstract: In a general aspect, identity markers containing identity-forming particles are created by electrostatic printing processes. In some aspects, a toner mixture is received on an electrostatically charged surface of an image transfer drum in an electrostatic printer system. The toner mixture includes fusible particles and diamond particles. The toner mixture is held to the electrostatically charged surface by an electrostatic force. The toner mixture is transferred onto a substrate from the electrostatically charged surface of the image transfer drum. The toner mixture is bonded to the substrate by operation of a fuser assembly of the electrostatic printer system. When the toner mixture is bonded onto the substrate, the fusible particles fuse to each other, thereby forming a host matrix that secures the diamond particles at fixed locations in the host matrix.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2024Publication date: February 20, 2025Applicant: DUST Identity, Inc.Inventors: Jacob Kohl, Ophir Gaathon, Benjamin Lawson, Ryan Vincent, Jonathan Hodges

Patent number: 12214613Abstract: In a general aspect, unique unclonable physical identifiers are applied and used. A method of applying the unique marker can include receiving an object having a surface feature and forming a unique marker on the surface feature of the object. The unique marker includes a distribution of elements and conforms with a morphology of the surface feature. The method further includes extracting orientation information from the unique marker. The orientation information can indicate relative spatial orientations of the respective elements. The method additionally includes generating a unique code for the object based on the orientation information. The surface feature can be facets, surface patterns, textures, or other indentations of the object. The surface feature can include a region of the object that is susceptible to tampering.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2022Date of Patent: February 4, 2025Assignee: DUST Identity, Inc.Inventors: Ophir Gaathon, Peter Gillooly, Jonathan Hodges, Jeffrey Germain, Sinan Karaveli

Publication number: 20240005116Abstract: In a general aspect, orientation information is used to generate a unique code. In some aspects, orientation information is extracted from an object. The object includes multiple elements, and the orientation information indicates the relative spatial orientations of the respective elements. The orientation information can be extracted, for instance, by a scanner system that detects the elements. A unique code is generated for the object based on the orientation information. In some examples, the elements are diamond particles that each have one or more color centers, and the orientation information is extracted by detecting the color centers.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2023Publication date: January 4, 2024Applicant: DUST Identity, Inc.Inventors: Ophir Gaathon, Jonathan Hodges

Patent number: 9385654Abstract: Techniques for obtaining a frequency standard using the crystal field splitting frequency of nitrogen vacancy center in diamond are disclosed. In certain exemplary embodiments, a microwave field is applied to the diamond and optically exciting the diamond under green light. The photoluminescent response of the diamond is measured by a photodetector. The intensity of the photoluminescent response can be used to determine the phase shift between the microwave and the crystal field splitting frequency. The microwave field frequency can be adjusted until the phase shift is below a predetermined threshold, and the microwave frequency can then be output for use as a standard.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2014Date of Patent: July 5, 2016Assignees: THE TRUSTEES OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK, PRESIDENT AND FELLOWS OF HARVARD COLLEGEInventors: Dirk R. Englund, Jonathan Hodges, Mikhail D. Lukin, Norman Y. Yao

The exposed portion can be vertically etched to a predetermined depth using inductively coupled plasma to form a plurality of nanoposts corresponding to the masked regions. The nanoposts can be harvested to obtain a nanostructure with a diameter corresponding to the predetermined diameter and a length corresponding to the predetermined depth.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2015Publication date: February 25, 2016Applicant: THE TRUSTEES OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN THE CITY OF NEW YORKInventors: Ophir Gaathon, Dirk R. Publication number: 20070275897Abstract: Novel collagen mimics are disclosed with a tripeptide unit having the formula (Xaa-Yaa-Gly)n, where one of the positions Xaa or Yaa is a bulky, non-electron withdrawing proline derivative. By substituting a proline derivative at either the Xaa or Yaa position in the native collagen helix, the stability of the helix is increased due solely to steric effects relative to prior known collagen-related triple helices. Methods are also disclosed for making the novel collagen mimics.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2007Publication date: November 29, 2007Inventors: Ronald Raines, Matthew Shoulders, Jonathan Hodges

Publication number: 20050102767Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, devices and kits for dispensing laundry additive materials into the drum of an automatic washing machine as that machine is used to carry out a fabric laundering operation. To bring about such dispensing of additives, a lidded housing structure is placed within the drum of an automatic washing machine, an insert, containing one or more laundry additives in each compartment, is placed within the lidded housing structure, the lid is closed and the machine is run through the several stages of its laundering cycle. Selectively actuatable puncturing element are provided to optionally open at least one compartment of the insert upon closing of the housing structure lid, thereby dispensing the contents of that opened compartment into the washing machine drum as wash additive materials and/or to open one or more compartments of the insert later in the laundering cycle to dispense contents of those compartments into the washing machine drum as rinse additive materials.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2004Publication date: May 19, 2005Applicant: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Yousef Aouad, Liben Hailu, Terence Curtis, Lawrence Kelly, William Wichman, Jonathan Hodges
