Patent number: 8676643Abstract: A method of extending promotional discounts and special prices on items for sale to identified consumers. After the identification of a consumer by a unique identifier; a selected item is promoted with a discount or special price to the identified consumer. The discount or special price is granted upon a purchase of the item by the identified consumer prior to the withdrawal or termination of the promotion to the identified consumer. The withdrawal or termination of the promotion is held in abeyance upon an acknowledgment of the promotion by the identified consumer. In other words, the identified consumer must take specific action to prevent a promotional discount from being withdrawn. This inverted promotion provides for greater incentives for the consumer to provide information about his or her purchasing habits.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2011Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignee: DS-IQ, Inc.Inventor: Jonathan Kepecs

Publication number: 20110082731Abstract: A system for avoiding fraud in the distribution and redemption of coupons is presented. A coupon is targeted to a particular customer and has a customer identifier which maps the coupon to the customer in some way. The coupon provides for two redemptions, an initial redemption for a nominal amount, including zero, and a deferred redemption which provides an incentive for redeeming the coupon. Upon purchasing an item or engaging in an activity urged by the coupon, the coupon is initially redeemed. After the redeemed coupon is validated and cleared, the customer identified through the customer identifier, is rewarded by the deferred redemption amount. Fraud is not rewarded since the initial redemption amount provides for little or no compensation.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2009Publication date: April 7, 2011Applicant: CONCEPT SHOPPING, INC.Inventor: Jonathan Kepecs

Publication number: 20040200898Abstract: Techniques for processing loyalty-based promotions using conventional, retail POS systems with minimal or no required changes to the POS system are described. An identifier is read by a POS system that is conventionally used to read financial cards. The identifier is determined to be a limited identification (“limited ID”) associated with a loyalty program. The limited ID is then stored in a transaction log (“tlog”) at the POS. The limited ID is not communicated to that part of a financial processing network involved in balance access or manipulation, and may in some embodiments not involve the financial processing network at all. The tlog can be analyzed for loyalty program transactions.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2004Publication date: October 14, 2004Applicant: Concept Shopping, Inc.Inventor: Jonathan Kepecs
