  • Patent number: 10772756
Abstract: An oral device for temporary placement in a patient's oral cavity includes upper and lower jaw braces and a tongue-engaging member. The upper and lower jaw braces are connected so that the lower jaw brace is advanced in an anterior direction relative to the upper jaw brace when the upper and lower jaw braces are closed together. A partial vacuum is drawn in the oral cavity and the vacuum and lower jaw displacement together control the position of the tongue in order to clear the patient's airway to reduce sleep apnea or treat other conditions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 17, 2017
Date of Patent: September 15, 2020
    Assignee: SOMNICS, INC.
Inventors: Matthias Vaska, Jonathan L. Podmore, John Edwards Crowe, Sean Christopher Daniel
  • Patent number: 10117773
Abstract: An oral device for temporary placement in a patient's oral cavity includes a base and a tongue pocket. Partial vacuums are separately drawn through vertically oriented, tooth facing ports on the base and the tongue pocket in order to advance and control the position of the tongue in order to clear the patient's airway to reduce sleep apnea or treat other conditions.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 9763759
Abstract: A saliva collector comprises a reservoir, a bubble barrier, and a membrane, where the bubble barrier and membrane are arranged in tandem on a flow path from an inlet to an outlet on the reservoir. Air aspirated from a patient's oral cavity enters the reservoir through the inlet, passes through the bubble barrier to remove foam and bubbles, passes through the membrane to remove entrained liquid saliva, and passes out through the outlet.

  • Publication number: 20170133994
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ultrasound transducer is provided. The ultrasound transducer is activated and the activity across the transducer is measured to determine whether the activity at any area does not meet an acceptance criteria. The transducer is then modified so that the area meets the acceptance criteria. The transducer may be modified with a laser which removes material from the area which does not meet the acceptance criteria.

  • Patent number: 9101498
Abstract: A system for sizing an oral appliance includes a right overlay, a left overlay, and a wax bite plate. A dental arch impression of a patient is taken on the wax bite plate, and indicia on the right and left overlays are aligned with the dental arch impression to provide information on both the arcuate shape and width of an oral appliance which can best fit the patient.

  • Publication number: 20150107603
Abstract: A saliva collector comprises a reservoir and a flow path from an inlet to an outlet on the reservoir. Air aspirated from the patient's oral cavity passes through an antechamber before reaching the reservoir. The antechamber is shaped to promote the collapse of any bubbles, allowing liquid saliva to drop from the antechamber to the reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20150101615
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for retaining a treatment device in the patient's oral cavity through the course of treatment are provided. Retainer elements, which match the upper and lower teeth of the patient, are worn by the patient and coupled to the bite plate of the treatment device. The upper and lower retainer elements can be coupled to the bite plate or otherwise positioned relative to one another such that the lower teeth and mandible are advanced in the anterior direction, which helps maintain airway patency. The treatment device can also apply a vacuum to the oral cavity to help maintain airway patency.

  • Publication number: 20140360509
Abstract: A saliva collector comprises a reservoir and a flow path from an inlet to an outlet on the reservoir. A heating element is disposed along the flow path. The heating element applies heat to force bubbles and foam present in the air aspirated from a patient's oral cavity to collapse. The collapsed bubbles and foam evaporate or drain into the reservoir bottom as liquid saliva.
