    Abstract: An external charger for an Implantable Medical Device (IMD) is disclosed having a primary charging coil and preferably two sense coils. The sense coils comprise an outer and inner sense coil, which are preferably concentric with the primary charging coil. An amplitude is induced on the sense coils, and a parameter such as ratio of these amplitudes is assessed by the charger to adjust the power of the magnetic field generated by the primary charging coil, or determine an alignment between the charging coil and the IMD, or both.

The sense coils provide feedback in the form of various monitored sense coil parameters that allow the charger to take various actions to monitor and regulate charging of the IMD, including determining an alignment between the charger and the IMD, adjusting the frequency of the magnetic field produced by the primary charging coil, adjusting a power of the magnetic field, and reception of back telemetry from the IMD. The charger further includes functions to set the power of the magnetic field in accordance with a sense coil parameter. These functions are selectable by a user to set a power mode for the charger.

    Abstract: System and methods are disclosed to automatically set or update physiological thresholds such as perception threshold (pth) and discomfort thresholds (dth) in an implantable stimulator system. The system monitors neural responses such as ECAPs resulting from stimulation provided to the patient. Extracted neural thresholds (ENTs) are determined, which can comprise a smallest stimulation amplitude at which a neural response can be reliably detected. A correlation between ENTs and physiological thresholds such as pth and dth is used to allow the physiological thresholds to be estimated and updated using the measured ENT values.
