Publication number: 20230025129Abstract: Antibodies to the enzyme matriptase-2 (MTP-2) are presented. Inhibiting MTP-2 reduces uptake of dietary iron and reduces the release of iron from cellular stores in the body. Inhibitors of MTP-2 (such as antibodies to the serine protease domain) can be used to treat iron overload, which is a feature of diseases such as beta-thalassaemia and which otherwise leads to toxic accumulation of iron. Combination of an MTP-2 inhibitor with an activin receptor ligand trap, or with erythropoietin, provides additional therapeutic effects.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2020Publication date: January 26, 2023Inventors: Matthew WAKE, Volker GERMASCHEWSKI, Igor THEURL, Jonathan Leslie PAPWORTH, Delphine MEYNARD

Patent number: 11255389Abstract: An adjuster for an air disc brake includes an over-torque clutch arrangement that includes an adjuster drive plate having ramped detents, and a ball-carrying plate having pockets for retaining ball bearings. Ball bearings are carried and retained in the ball-carrying plate, and transmit rotation between the adjuster drive plate and the ball-carrying plate below a torque threshold. Above a torque threshold, the balls move axially away from the adjuster drive plate against the force of a spring, and ride up the ramped detents. Above the torque threshold, rotation is not transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2020Date of Patent: February 22, 2022Inventors: Paul Roberts, Jonathan Leslie Christopher Jackson

Patent number: 10892153Abstract: Apparatus (e.g., ion source), systems (e.g., residual gas analyzer), and methods provide extended life and improved analytical stability of mass spectrometers in the presence of contamination gases while achieving substantial preferential ionization of sampled gases over internal background gases. One embodiment is an ion source that includes a gas source, nozzle, electron source, and electrodes. The gas source delivers gas via the nozzle to an evacuated ionization volume and is at a higher pressure than that of the evacuated ionization volume. Gas passing through the nozzle freely expands in an ionization region of the ionization volume. The electron source emits electrons through the expanding gas in the ionization region to ionize at least a portion of the expanding gas. The electrodes create electrical fields for ion flow from the ionization region to a mass filter and are located at distances from the nozzle and oriented to limit their exposure to the gas.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2019Date of Patent: January 12, 2021Assignee: MKS Instruments, Inc.Inventors: James E. Blessing, Jonathan Leslie, Jonathan Hugh Batey

Patent number: 10369477Abstract: Methods of managing virtual resources within a virtual world are described which use a device comprising a connecting element to which one or more smart beads can be attached. A smart bead represents either a virtual resource in the virtual world or an action on a virtual resource in the virtual world. The device is arranged to detect and identify which smart beads are attached to the connecting element and to autonomously update quantities of one or more virtual resources based on combinations of virtual resources and/or actions on virtual resources, where at least one of the virtual resources or actions in any combination is represented by a detected smart bead. In an embodiment, the device is a fashion item such as a wearable device.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2014Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: James William Scott, Haiyan Zhang, Nicolas Villar, Alexandra Keeley Bunting, Jonathan Leslie Venables, Simon Jay Carter

Patent number: 10302161Abstract: Sealing means are disclosed for preventing the ingress of water and dirt between a brake caliper and the carrier guide pin. At the end of the guide pin facing away from the brake carrier, a retaining clip holds a sealing bead of a sealing boot at least partially within an axial bore of the guide pin. At the end of the guide pin which faces towards the carrier, a sealing boot is provided seated on a ring which in turn is attached to the caliper. The other end of the sealing boot is attached to the guide pin, in a space between the guide pin and the ring. The sealing means at either end are compact, and provide effective sealing where there is not enough space to provide known sealing means.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2017Date of Patent: May 28, 2019Assignee: MEI BRAKES LIMITEDInventors: Paul Roberts, Jonathan Leslie Christopher Jackson, Andrew Dawson, Alexis Jonathan Randall

Patent number: 10188939Abstract: A modular assembly system is described which enables interaction with an interactive software experience such as a game. The system enables a coherent physical whole object to be assembled from a core module and one or more peripheral modules. The core module includes a battery, processor and a wireless module which is able to communicate with the interactive software experience which runs on a separate computing device such as a smartphone, tablet or games console. Each of the peripheral modules stores a module ID and these IDs are collected by the core module and communicated to the interactive software experience. The user experience within the interactive software experience changes dependent upon the set of modules which are connected to form the coherent physical whole object and may also be altered as a result of manipulation of the coherent physical whole object or individual modules.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2014Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Haiyan Zhang, Nicolas Villar, James William Scott, Greg Saul, Alexandra Keeley Bunting, Lee Jason Schuneman, Philip Robert Harrison, Struan Andrew Robertson, Jonathan Leslie Venables, Thomas James Mejias Stott, Sandeep Bhara, Navtej Sunner

Patent number: 10150043Abstract: Interactive smart beads are described. The beads are attached to a connecting element and form a fashion item such as a necklace or bracelet. The connecting element detects the presence of beads which are part of the fashion item and also beads which are part of nearby fashion items. The connecting element also autonomously generates interactions between two or more detected beads and transmits data about the interactions to a software experience so that a user can view a graphical representation of the interactions. In various examples each bead represents a character, environment, object, etc. and the software experience displays an animated story based on the characters, environments, objects, etc. represented by the beads involved in an interaction.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2014Date of Patent: December 11, 2018Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Haiyan Zhang, Nicolas Villar, James William Scott, Alexandra Keeley Bunting, Greg Saul, Lee Jason Schuneman, Philip Robert Harrison, Jonathan Leslie Venables, Simon Terence Prodger

Patent number: 10145433Abstract: A disc brake (10) of the type including a pivoting lever having eccentric journals which act on a pair of tappets is disclosed. The tappets are adjusted in length by rotation, and each tappet has a tappet gear (22). A centrally located intermediate gear (24) is provided between the tappet gears to form a gear train, synchronizing the rotation of the two tappets and therefore ensuring that they remain the same length. The centrally located intermediate gear (24) includes a socket (26) for receiving a centrally located adjuster. The adjuster may be installed and removed from the disc brake through an aperture at the rear of the brake caliper, without any substantial disassembly of the brake and without de-synchronizing the tappets or even interrupting the gear train between the tappets.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2015Date of Patent: December 4, 2018Assignee: MEI BRAKES LIMITEDInventor: Jonathan Leslie Christopher Jackson
