A method for coagulating blood can include providing a powdered hemostatic lysine composition; and applying the powdered hemostatic lysine composition to blood so as to cause the blood to coagulate and form a clot. The coagulation can occur in a nasal passageway away from a blood vessel. The method can include providing at least one absorbent member having the powdered hemostatic lysine composition; and applying the at least one absorbent member to the blood so that the powdered hemostatic lysine composition causes the blood to coagulate and clot.
