Abstract: A method for the detection of refrigerant starvation in a cooling system comprising at least one refrigerant compressor serving multiple cooling locations, and a suction line leading to the refrigerant compressor(s). The method determines whether local refrigerant starvation exists in each cooling location, then calculates whether the level of all cooling locations experiencing local refrigerant starvation exceeds one or more predetermined levels and finally determines that, if the calculated level of cooling locations with local refrigerant starvation exceeds one predetermined level, or exceeds a second predetermined level in combination with a calculated high suction line superheat, then there is a likelihood of refrigerant starvation in the central system.
