    Abstract: The present invention relates to improving the biological efficiency of utilization of protein in ruminant feeds by protection of such protein from substantial degradation in the rumen without markedly reducing the subsequent absorption of the amino acid constituents of the protein in the lower digestive tract. In one aspect of the invention this is achieved by mixing a protein containing material with a reducing carbohydrate and subjecting the mixture to heat, pressure and shear forces.
