  • Publication number: 20080067859
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, a pick comprises a carbide bolster disposed intermediate an impact tip and a shank assembly. The impact tip comprises a superhard material bonded to a carbide substrate, and the tip is bonded to the bolster opposing a base of the bolster. The shank assembly comprises a central axis, a first end that protrudes into a cavity formed in the base of the bolster, and also an inducible attachment mechanism disposed proximate the first end. The inducible attachment mechanism is adapted to attach the shank assembly to the carbide bolster and restrict movement of the shank assembly with respect to the carbide bolster. • Patent number: 7242409
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting the color of an application user interface (UI). A UI allows a user to define hue and saturation values used to adjust first RGB values of pixels determining the color of the UI. A media player application (MPA) calculates second RGB values as a function of the first RGB values and the defined hue and saturation values. The MPA compares the defined saturation value to a threshold saturation value. If the defined saturation value is less than the threshold saturation value, the MPA calculates third RGB values as a function of the second RGB values, and assigns the third RGB values to the pixels determining the color of the UI. If the defined saturation value is equal to or greater than the threshold saturation value, the MPA assigns the second RGB values to the pixels determining the color of the UI.

  • Patent number: 6512853
Abstract: A method for compressing digital image data with greyscale values comprises making at least three predictions of the greyscale value of each pixel and comparing the predicted values with the actual value of the pixel. The difference values between the respective predicted values and the actual value of each pixel is computed, and the median difference value of the three difference values is selected for bit coding. Bit coding is carried out by using variable length bit codes, the shortest length bit code being assigned to the most frequently occurring median difference value. The coded values of the median differences are bit packed, and in the case of a pixel where the absolute median difference value exceeds a predetermined value, the actual pixel value is bit packed.

  • Patent number: 6453559
Abstract: A safety knife comprises a handle and a blade mounted on the handle so that a part of the blade projects from the handle. Two retractable safety guards are also mounted on the handle, overlying opposite sides of the projecting portion of the blade. Each guard is spring-loaded so that pressure from the material being cut causes the guards to retract into the handle as the blade cuts into the material. A manually controlled locking device normally prevents the guards being retracted but, when operated, allows the guards to retract. The guards automatically extend, under the action of springs, when the knife is removed from the material.
