  • Publication number: 20100038983
Abstract: One of the embodiments of the invention is an actuator system for extending and flexing a joint. The actuator system includes a multi-motor assembly for providing a rotational output, a rotary-to-linear mechanism including a screw that accepts the rotational output of the multi-motor assembly and a nut that cooperates with the screw to convert rotational movement of the screw to linear movement of the nut, and a moving rail with a latch that functions to translate linear movement of the nut in both the extension and flexion directions into an extension and flexion of the joint. The actuator has been specifically designed for extending and flexing a joint (such as an ankle, a knee, an elbow, or a shoulder) of a human. The actuator system may, however, be used to move any suitable object through any suitable movement (linear, rotational, or otherwise).

  • Publication number: 20090204038
Abstract: A multi-fit orthotic structure including an attachment system for coupling the orthotic structure to a wide variety of subjects without requiring a custom fit. In one embodiment, active mobility assistance is provided via an orthotic system capable of integrating a linear actuator and linkage system to deliver torque to the lower leg of a subject to facilitate flexion and/or extension motion of the subject's leg. The orthotic structure is attached to the subject using a textile suspension system which does not require the orthotic structure to interface directly in the knee region or at the lateral areas of the thigh and calf of the subject, thus providing an ideal fit for the widest possible range of subjects with the minimum number of required sizes.

  • Publication number: 20070284654
Abstract: A transistor device and method are disclosed for reducing parasitic resistance and enhancing channel mobility using a metal alloy layer over a conductive region. A transistor device may include a conductive region such as a source, drain and/or gate including at least one first conductive material, and a metal alloy layer disposed on substantially all of a surface of the conductive region, the metal alloy layer including a second conductive material different than the at least one first conductive materials. In one embodiment, the second conductive material includes a cobalt and/or nickel alloy. The metal alloy layer provides a non-epitaxial raised source/drain (and gate) to reduce the parasitic series resistance in, for example, nFETs fabricated on UTSOI. In addition, the metal alloy layer may include a stress to enhance mobility in a channel of the transistor device. The metal alloy layer may be formed using a selective electrochemical metal deposition process such as electroless or electrolytic plating.

  • Publication number: 20070271319
Abstract: A set of related methods of demodulating amplitude and frequency modulated signals. The emphasis is on using an iterative approach to separate an envelope signal and a frequency modulated signal from which a physically meaningful, non-negative instantaneous frequency can be derived. Three schemes are presented. The first scheme represents signals as the single product of an envelope signal and a frequency modulated signal, derived by iterative methods. The remaining schemes involve repeatedly smoothing the signal prior to demodulation. The signal is represented as being the sum of a set of component signals, each of which is the product of an envelope signal and a frequency modulated signal. For all three schemes the envelope and instantaneous frequency values can be presented in the form of the Demodulated Signal time-frequency representation.
