  • Publication number: 20240018455
Abstract: Disclosed herein a robust approach to monitor cell interactions with its surrounding environment in real-time in a physiologically relevant 3-D microenvironment, holding great promise for enhancing future studies of detecting and monitoring cell processes and responses to instructive cues and therapeutic agents. A microfluidic cell culture system is provided that involves a cell sensor in a 3D culture scaffold and one or more microfluidic channels fluidly connected to the 3D culture matrix. The cell sensor involves a planar nucleic acid nanostructure having a top surface and a bottom surface, a plurality sensor molecule attached to the top surface to detect at least two target molecules, and one or more membrane anchoring moieties attached to the bottom surface.

  • Publication number: 20200290039
Abstract: Disclosed herein are devices and methods for measuring the effect of chemokines and electric fields on cell migration. This approach is inherently non-contact and does not require injection of current. For example, disclosed herein is a device for assessing cell migration that comprises a cell migration chamber and an electromagnet positioned to produce a uniform electric field across the length of the chamber. Also disclosed is a method for assaying a cell that involves loading cells into the disclosed device along with a chemokine in an amount to produce a chemokine gradient, activating the electromagnet to produce an electric field across the cell migration chamber, and imaging the cells to measure the dual effect of the chemokine and the electric field on the cells.

  • Publication number: 20070282313
Abstract: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is used to map the surface elevation and thickness of the cornea. The OCT maps are used to plan laser procedures for the treatment of an irregular, opacified or weakened cornea, and in the treatment of refractive errors. In the excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) procedure, the OCT data is used to plan a map of ablation depth needed to restore a smooth optical surface. In the excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy procedure, OCT mapping of epithelial thickness is used to achieve clean laser epithelial removal. In femtosecond laser anterior keratoplasty procedure, OCT data is used to plan the depth of femtosecond laser dissection to remove an anterior layer of the cornea, leaving a smooth recipient bed of uniform thickness to receive a disk of donated corneal tissue.

  • Publication number: 20070027786
Abstract: There are provided new structural default models for modeling the likely default of publicly traded companies. In a first embodiment, the invention is straight-forward to implement and allows the capture of some important ingredients of the actual default, including positive short-term CDSs. In a second embodiment them model is somewhat more versatile and complex. Provided is a very efficient method for dealing with the timing of a default boundary, that is, jumps in the company's value, etc. Further provided is a process using Fast Fourier Transform matrix processing for processing the structural default models in a computationally efficient manner.
