  • Publication number: 20080140909
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for managing data with an empty data segment directive at the requesting device. The apparatus, system, and method include a token directive generation module and a token directive transmission module. The token directive generation module generates a storage request with a token directive. The token directive includes a request to store on the storage device a data segment token. The token directive substitutes for a series of repeated, identical characters or a series of repeated, identical character strings to be stored as a data segment. The token directive includes at least a data segment identifier and a data segment length. The data segment token and the token directive are substantially free from data of the data segment. The token directive transmission module transmits the token directive to the storage device.

  • Publication number: 20080137284
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for a modular blade. The blade has a first carrier card and a second carrier card. At least one of these cards connects into the backplane of a blade server and provides connectivity for the modular blade to the backplane. The carrier cards also provide connectivity between their respective attached devices. In order to increase the density available in a modular blade, the computing components on the first and second cards interleave with one another such that a maximum number of components fit in a minimal space. The modular blade also provides an airflow channel for air circulation necessary to provide cooling. The first carrier card and second carrier card may also be identical, with one of the identical pair rotated one-hundred and eighty degrees with respect to the other.

  • Publication number: 20080140932
Abstract: An apparatus and system are disclosed for an in-server storage area network (“SAN”). A first storage controller is included within a first server. The first storage controller controls at least one storage device. The first server includes a network interface shared by the first server and the first storage controller. A storage communication module is included that facilitates communication between the first storage controller and at least one device external to the first server, where the communication between the first storage controller and the external device is independent from the first server. An in-server SAN module is included that services a storage request using at least one of a network protocol and a bus protocol. The in-server SAN module services the storage request independent from the first server, the service request received from a client.

  • Publication number: 20080140724
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for servicing object requests within a storage controller. An object request receiver module is included that receives an object request from a requesting device. The object request is received by the storage controller and directed at a data segment of an object managed by the storage controller. The storage controller stores the data segment in a data storage device coupled to the storage controller. A parsing module is included that parses at least one command from the object request. A command execution module is included that executes the at least one command parsed from the object request. An object index module is included that creates an object entry in an object index in response to the storage controller storing the data segment of the object.

  • Publication number: 20070186557
Abstract: A system and method to reduce the gas fuel supply pressure requirements of a gas turbine, which results in an increased operability range and a reduction in gas turbine trips. According to the method, the gas turbine is allowed to start and operate at supply pressures determined as a function of ambient conditions and gas turbine compressor pressure ratio. This increases the operability window, and reduces or eliminates the need for gas fuel compressors.

  • Publication number: 20070074516
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for controlling a bypass air split for a gas turbine combustor, the method comprising determining a target exhaust temperature, wherein the target exhaust temperature is based on at least one parameter of a group of parameters consisting of low pressure turbine speed, high pressure turbine speed, inlet guide vane angle, and bypass valve air split. Using the target exhaust temperature to calculate a required percentage of bypass air split based on maintaining maximum CO levels or minimum NOx levels. And, applying the required percentage of bypass air split to control a position of the bypass air valve.

  • Patent number: 6954860
Abstract: Improved techniques for implementing Network Copy Protection for database programs are disclosed. The techniques can provide Network Copy Protection across various platforms and/or connection protocols. Accordingly, the database programs can detect unlicensed use of the software even when different platforms and/or connection protocols are used by two instances (software copies) of the same database program. When unlicensed use of software is detected, access to data can be denied. As will be appreciated, in addition to supporting more conventional communication protocols, more prevalent connection protocols can be supported.

  • Publication number: 20030036203
Abstract: A method and graphic representation for profiling various risk factors and protective factors relating to an individual's health are presented. The profiles include a bar graph having an optimal value range for at least one indicator substance used for assessing an individual's risk factor or protective factor, where the optimal value range represents optimal health status, as well as a range of values outside of the optimal value range, and an indicator substance value for a test individual or a patient where the test individual or patient indicator substance value is identified on or near the bar graph in relation to the value ranges of indicator substance represented by the bar graph.

  • Patent number: 5999549
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for laser safety. A fault detector detects laser fault conditions and generates a laser fault control signal. A laser fault counter is coupled to the fault detector for counting laser fault conditions and for generating a disable laser control signal responsive to a predetermined fault count. A reset timer is coupled to the laser fault counter for identifying a predetermined reset time period responsive to the laser fault control signal and applying a reset signal to the laser fault counter. Features of laser safety method and apparatus of the invention are that the laser fault counter is reset if a second laser fault condition is not detected within the predetermined reset time period after the laser is turned on. The disable laser control signal is not generated when a safe laser optical power condition occurs between two laser fault conditions.

  • Patent number: 5757998
Abstract: A package for containing a high speed electronic assembly has a small physical size, shielding, pluggability, and is capable of operating at multigigabit transmission rates. The package includes a module and a cover which covers at least the top of the module. An optical assembly and a circuit packaging are inserted into the module. The package, with an appropriate cover, can be removed and inserted without disturbing other packages secured on the board. The circuit packaging is electrically connected to the board through bump connectors, while the circuit packaging itself supplies a normal force for insuring the bump connectors are in contact with the board. The package is attached to the board using an attachment member which is separate from the bump connectors. The bump connectors facilitate high speed transmission.
