  • Patent number: 10385816
Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an engine of a vehicle that may be automatically stopped and started are disclosed. In one example, a speed at which a vehicle system induced automatic engine stop inhibit request is cleared may be adjusted to permit automatic engine stopping during a wide variety of driving conditions so that fuel may be conserved and the possibility of disturbing vehicle occupants may be reduced.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 17, 2018
Date of Patent: August 20, 2019
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Hafiz Khafagy, Gary Paisley, David Hesketh, Jonathan Wentworth, Dilli Raj Poudel

  • Patent number: 10173666
Abstract: A vehicle includes an engine and a controller. The controller starts the engine in response to a brake status before and during a change in vehicle operating mode achieving predetermined states, and expiration of a timer initiated upon completion of the change and having a duration based upon a learned mean mode-specific shift time window. The change is initiated in response to a request to change vehicle operating mode while the engine is off.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 30, 2016
Date of Patent: January 8, 2019
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Hafiz Shafeek Khafagy, Jonathan Wentworth, Essam Mohamed, Rashad Jamal Allen
  • Patent number: 10086704
Abstract: A method of controlling power to a vehicle accessory gradually shuts down power to the vehicle accessory and gradually restores power to the vehicle accessory. After a request for an auto-shutdown of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle is detected, power to the vehicle accessory is reduced on a predetermined schedule responsive to such detection. The occurrence of a restart of the internal combustion engine of a vehicle is determined, and power supplied to the vehicle accessory is increased on a predetermined schedule responsive to the restart.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 7, 2016
Date of Patent: October 2, 2018
    Assignee: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC
