  • Publication number: 20060084877
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for assessing the condition of and treating patients for heart failure by the delivery of continuous positive airway pressure are disclosed. Airflow of the patient is measured to determine occurrences of central apneas. A heart failure index is calculated from a count of the number of central apneas that have occurred. The present heart failure index can be compared with a previously calculated heart failure index to determine how the patient's heart failure disease has changed and how it should be treated.

  • Publication number: 20050275214
Abstract: Color-changing inks are used in conjunction with printed material, with defined fields to create unique designs and/or works of art. In the preferred embodiment, pre-printed pages or books are used with fields of invisible inks that are activated with different pens to produce a unique final product. In alternative embodiments, stickers, paints, flocking, foil stamping, thermography, embossing and rubber stamps may be used. In specific embodiments, depictions of cartoon characters or other humans or animals are intermingled with more geometric fields, often with instructions or text explaining to a user what actions should be taken for a desired effect or outcome. Patterns of “invisible inks” having desired properties are pre-printed onto materials according to the invention, such that, through the use of different activator pens, different colors are produced in the various fields, thereby rendering a unique product in each case.

  • Patent number: 6873827
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring a change in the insertion loss of a transmission line in a communication system is disclosed. The method provides feeder cable insertion loss detection in a transmission system without interfering with normal operation. The method includes injecting a non-interfering signal at a predetermined frequency onto a cable providing normal operating signals to a narrowband device at a predetermined frequency, measuring the amplitude of the injected signal, measuring the amplitude of a reflected signal, the injected signal being reflected by the narrowband device and processing the amplitude of the injected signal and the amplitude of the reflected signal to derive a current insertion loss for the cable.

  • Publication number: 20040198144
Abstract: A pad of paper (or book) is interconnected with a box of writing implements (or other materials) in a manner allowing the pad or book and other items to be folded over in overlying registration for a more compact configuration. In addition to writing implements, the other materials may include rubber stamps, ink pads, playing cards or flash cards, stickers, temporary tattoos, and so forth. The dimensions of the paper and box of materials are preferably the same, though the dimensions may themselves be dictated by the size and number of implements, or other considerations.

  • Patent number: 6701767
Abstract: A trailered brake workstation mounts on the horizontal frame of a two-wheeled trailer, a pair of longitudinally-spaced transverse horizontal guide bars at an elevated position above the frame. The guide bars mount slides which are secured to the bottom of a longitudinally-disposed brake. Thus the brake, via the slides, can be shifted laterally on the horizontal guide bars between an internal or centered position it which it may be locked for hauling and storing, and a side position in which it may be locked and available for operative use. A box and a cover protect the brake in the internal or centered position from the elements. A work table may also be transported, being stored in the throat of the brake during transportation, and disposed for use on the other side of the trailer when the brake is operative.

  • Patent number: 6405057
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining component temperature in a base station is disclosed. The method and apparatus reduces or eliminates the time required for raising the internal temperature of components in a base station transceiver without incurring substantial cost. A power amplifier receives a signal at an input and provides an amplified signal at an output and a switch for switching between a first and a second bias circuit in response to a control signal, wherein the first bias circuit comprises an RF bias circuit for providing normal RF bias to the power amplifier and the second bias circuit is a cold start bias circuit for providing a cold start bias to the power amplifier. The power amplifier includes a power transistor. The cold start bias circuit causes the power transmitter to substantially increase an amount of heat dissipated by the power amplifier causing the temperature of the BTS to rise above de-ratings for the components.

  • Patent number: 6142866
Abstract: An air circulation control apparatus and method for a system such as a Base Transmission (or Transceiver) System (BTS) provides a control of an ambient air flow between inside and outside of the system. The apparatus includes at least one controller, such as a fan, and a member along an air flow path of the system. The member may be moveably mounted on the inside wall of the system. The controller operates in a forcing mode or a drawing mode to open or close the member so as to allow or not allow the air flow between inside and outside of the system.
