Patent number: 10575597Abstract: A seatbelt buckle device includes a housing, a frame, a latching arrangement and a release button. The frame includes a bottom wall and first and second laterally spaced walls. The latching arrangement selectively retains a latch plate within the housing. The release button is movable between a latched position and an unlatched position. A proximal end, a distal end and first and second laterally spaced apart legs of the release button cooperate to define an opening into which a projecting portion distally from the proximal end. At least one shield member laterally extends from the projection portion toward the first and second laterally spaced apart legs. Each shield member includes an outboard side spaced from an adjacent leg of the first and second legs by a gap. Each gap slidingly receives one of the first and second laterally spaced walls of the frame.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2017Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: AUTOLIV ASP, INC.Inventors: Jonathon Boughner, Jon E. Publication number: 20190133260Abstract: A seatbelt buckle device includes a housing, a frame, a latching arrangement and a release button. The frame is disposed in the housing, fixed in position in the housing and includes a bottom wall and first and second laterally spaced walls. The latching arrangement is operatively associated with the frame for selectively retaining a latch plate within the housing. The release button is in sliding engagement with the frame and movable between a latched position and an unlatched position. The release button includes a proximal end, a distal end and a first and second laterally spaced apart legs extending between the proximal and distal ends. The proximal end, the distal end and the first and second laterally spaced apart legs cooperate to define an opening into which a projecting portion distally from the proximal end. At least one shield member laterally extends from the projection portion toward the first and second laterally spaced apart legs.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2017Publication date: May 9, 2019Applicant: AUTOLIV ASP, INC.Inventors: Jonathon BOUGHNER, Jon E. Patent number: 10232819Abstract: A seatbelt webbing retractor and a method of assembling a seatbelt webbing retractor including a unitary bobbin having a mounting portion, a first and second annular wall extending perpendicularly from a first and second end of the mounting portion, respectively. The mounting portion of the unitary bobbin defines a plurality of slots through which the seatbelt webbing is passed. The seatbelt webbing retractor also includes a spindle extending through the mounting portion of the unitary bobbin and a retractor frame to which the spindle is mounted. The unitary bobbin is rotatable with respect to the retractor frame and an outer surface of the unitary bobbin is configured to be wrapped with the seatbelt webbing.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2016Date of Patent: March 19, 2019Assignee: AUTOLIV ASP, INC.Inventors: Jon E. Burrow, Jonathon Boughner

Patent number: 9901144Abstract: A seatbelt buckling device and system includes a buckle and a latch plate. The latch plate includes a pair of fingers that extend from a base portion. The buckle includes buckle housing that defines a slot that is configured to receive the fingers of the latch plate. The buckle also includes a blocking member disposed in the slot that splits the slot into first and second slot portions. The first and second slot portions are sized to receive the fingers. The blocking member restricts debris from entering a cavity of the buckle housing. The buckle further includes a depressible button for releasing the latch plate. The blocking member is arranged as a blockout portion integrated into the button or an ejector protrusion extending from an ejector disposed within the buckle.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2014Date of Patent: February 27, 2018Assignee: AUTOLIV ASP, INC.Inventors: Chris Koprowicz, Juan Arenas, Jonathon Boughner, Bin Wang

Patent number: 9707927Abstract: A seatbelt buckle apparatus for a motor vehicle is provided. The apparatus includes a buckle housing that provides at least part of a structure for selectively coupling a seatbelt latch plate to the apparatus. A switch housing houses at least part of a switch. The switch monitors whether or not the seatbelt latch plate is coupled to the seatbelt buckle apparatus. A switch wire harness is in communication with the switch. A strain relief-guide feature carries and guides a section of the switch wire harness so as to provide strain relief to the switch wire harness when a force is applied to the switch wire harness downstream from the strain relief-guide feature.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2016Date of Patent: July 18, 2017Assignee: AUTOLIV ASP, INC.Inventors: Jonathon Boughner, Jon E. Burrow, Kevin Dewey

Patent number: 9102301Abstract: A seatbelt clamping device includes a U shaped housing configured for being mounted to vehicle structure and a shackle that is pivotally attached to the housing. The shackle can pivot between an open position for receiving a loop of seatbelt webbing and a closed position for retaining the seatbelt webbing. The housing includes a locking surface, and the shackle and locking surface define a gap therebetween through which the seatbelt webbing can slide. The shackle includes a shaft and a cam cover rotatable about the shaft. The cam cover includes an increased radius locking portion that can rotate toward the locking surface to clamp the seatbelt webbing in response to a load exerted thereon.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2014Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: AUTOLIV ASP, INC.Inventors: Matthias Bäker, Jonathon Boughner, Chris Koprowicz, Paul Heasman
