    Abstract: An optical information storage medium system is provided. The optical information storage medium system includes an optical pickup, which comprises a photo-detector configured to control light power detected by receiving a portion of light emitted from a light source and obtains an output signal proportional to output light power of the light source from a signal detected by the photo-detector, and a signal processor configured to signal-process the output signal input from the optical pickup. The signal processor includes a sensitivity acquisition unit configured to acquire a sensitivity value of the photo-detector, a gain calculator configured to calculate a target gain value to be used in comparing the sensitivity value of the photo-detector, which is acquired by the sensitivity acquisition unit, with a target sensitivity value to be used by the optical information storage medium system, and a gain adjustment unit.

    Abstract: A data recording or recording and reproducing apparatus and method for improving recording quality by recording and/or reproducing data which controls the varying of a recording optical power level based on the recording speed when recording data in a disc-type recording medium. The data recording apparatus includes a memory for storing discrimination information for discriminating a disc type as well as corresponding read power level information for each recording speed, a pickup driving unit for receiving information read out from the disc from a pickup or outputting a signal for controlling the pickup, and a system control unit for receiving discrimination information of an inserted disc from the pickup driving unit, determining the read power level based on the power information for each recording speed corresponding to the disc discrimination information, and outputting a signal reflecting the determined read power to the pickup driving unit.

    Abstract: An optical pickup device includes a light source for emitting light, a beam splitter installed on an optical path of the light emitted from the light source for splitting the light, an objective lens for focusing a main light split by the beam splitter at an optical disk, a monitoring photodetector for receiving a sub-light split by the beam splitter and monitoring the amount of light output from the light source, a main photodetector for receiving the light emitted from the light source and reflected by the optical disk and passing through the beam splitter and detecting an error signal and an information signal, and a collimating lens installed on the optical path between the light source and the beam splitter for focusing both the main light and sub-light split by the beam splitter, so that the amount of light received by the monitoring photodetector increases.
