Abstract: A system is provided for transmitting/receiving downlink resource allocation information in a communication system. In the system, a base station generates first information including downlink resource allocation information necessary for supporting a first mode supported by the base station, generates second information including length information of the first information, and transmits the first information and the second information. A mobile station notifies the base station of a second mode supported by the mobile station, receives, after the notification, the first information and the second information from the base station, and skips without decoding as much downlink resource allocation information as a length corresponding to the length information without decoding, if the first mode is different from the second mode.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for transmission/reception of system information in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. An operation of a Base Station (BS) in a broadband wireless communication system includes determining whether to apply a system configuration corresponding to a previous value of a Secondary-Super Frame Header (S-SFH) change count changed according to update of system information and, when applying the system configuration corresponding to the previous value of the S-SFH change count, setting a parameter representing the applied system configuration to a first value and, when applying a system configuration corresponding to a current value of the S-SFH change count, setting the parameter to a second value, and transmitting a Primary-Super Frame Header (P-SFH) including the S-SFH change count and the parameter set to the first value or the second value.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting a Short Message Service (SMS) of a Mobile Station (MS) during an idle mode in a wireless communication system are provided. An MS operation method for supporting an SMS in a wireless communication system includes receiving an SMS message from a Base Station (BS) through a ranging message in an idle mode, upon receiving the SMS message from the BS, starting a timer, while the timer operates, waiting UpLink (UL) resource allocation for transmission of an ACKnowledge (ACK) message about the SMS message, and, upon being allocated a UL resource for the ACK message transmission, transmitting the ACK message using the UL resource.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for re-transmitting data in a wireless access communication system are disclosed. The data retransmission method in a wireless access communication system performing a data transmission/reception operation between a terminal and a base station using ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request) includes the step of transmitting allocation information for bandwidth for data retransmission with respect to data received by the base station and ARQ feedback information according to an error which is included in the received data from the base station to the terminal, and re-transmitting the data in which the error had occurred through the allocated bandwidth based on the allocation information of the bandwidth for the data retransmission from the terminal to the base station.

Abstract: A cell configuration method and system and a channel allocation method for the system are disclosed for minimizing the influence of intercell interference between cells in a mobile communication system capable of providing a mobile subscriber with a stable communication service, by determining a number of safety channels to be assigned to each of the plurality of cells, and providing the adjacent cells around the serving cell with at least one additional shared safety channel other than the safety channel originally assigned to the each cell.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for transmitting and receiving MAC PDUs in a broadband wireless communication system. A transmitter generates a MAC PDU and determines if an empty area exists in the PDU. If the empty area exists, the transmitter determines if there exists a complete SDU for transmission having a size that is less than or equal to the size of the empty area. If the complete SDU exists, the transmitter adds into the PDU as a last payload piece the SDU without a subheader, and sets a GMH of the PDU to indicate that a No Overhead Last complete SDU (NOLS) exists, and transmits the PDU. A receiver analyzes a GMH of a received MAC PDU and determines if an NOLS exists in the PDU. If the NOLS exists, the receiver sequentially monitors the PSHs in the PDU to detect the last PSH, and separates an SDU corresponding to the NOLS from the PDU with reference to the last PSH.
