  • Publication number: 20050226617
Abstract: A digital image transmitter is disclosed herein. The digital image transmitter includes: a sender for transforming a plurality of channels of electrical signals output from a computer to a single channel of optical signal and sending the single channel of optical signal; an optical cable provided with a single optical fiber and sending the single channel of optical signal of the sender through the optical fiber; and a receiver for recovering the single channel of optical signal transmitted through the optical cable to the plurality of channels of electrical signals and outputting the electrical signals to a digital image display device. Therefore, the present invention is capable of increasing productivity and reducing manufacturing and installation costs by simplifying a manufacturing process. Further, the present invention is capable of stably transmitting a high-resolution digital image signal since the skew does not generated during long distance transmission.

  • Patent number: 6470116
Abstract: A bidirectional signal transmission device using light which adopts a photodiode-incorporated vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) as light devices so that signal transmission and reception between facing light devices is achieved via the same channel, is provided. This bidirectional signal transmission device includes first and second light devices having a VCSEL part and a photodiode part incorporated with the VCSEL part, at least one optical fiber installed between the first and second light devices, and diffraction elements installed between the first light device and the input/output port of the optical fiber and between the second light device and the output port of the optical fiber, respectively, for selectively diffracting incident light so that light output from the optical fiber is received by the photodiode part, so that a received light signal having a high S/N ratio can be detected.

  • Patent number: 5663944
Abstract: There is provided a device for monitoring the light output of a VCSEL and a recording and reproducing optical pick-up adopting the device. The device for monitoring the light output of a VCSEL has a half mirror positioned in front of a VCSEL, for reflecting a portion of the light emitted from the VCSEL, and a monitoring optical detector positioned behind the VCSEL, for detecting the light reflected from the half mirror. The recording and reproducing optical pick-up employing the device includes a VCSEL having a light-emitting surface for emitting light vertically from the light-emitting surface, a light output monitor for monitoring the light output of the VCSEL, an objective lens for concentrating incident light on an optical recording medium to form an optical spot thereon, a light path changer for changing a path of the light reflected from the optical recording medium, and a first optical detector for receiving the reflected light and detecting an error signal and an information signal.

  • Patent number: 5648979
Abstract: There is provided an assembly of a light source and an optical detector, each using a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). To control light emission of the VCSEL light source, spontaneous light emitted laterally therefrom is converted into an electrical signal. The optical detector for monitoring light is provided around the light source to supply the feedback electrical signal. The inner surface facing the light source of the optical detector is circular to absorb the spontaneous light and the outer surface thereof is polygonal having a plurality of peaks and valleys. Therefore, most of spontaneous light absorbed in the optical detector is reflected within, not penetrating the outer surface thereof, thereby extending the path of the spontaneous light in the optical detector and increasing the light intensity converted into an electrical signal.
