  • Patent number: 6246827
Abstract: A system for reproducing a luminance signal from a medium containing a previously recorded luminance signal with a high-frequency portion thereof compressed in dynamic range includes a circuit for recovering that luminance signal from the medium. Filtering is done to separate the low-frequency and compressed-in-dynamic-range high-frequency portions of the recovered luminance signal from each other. A corer responds to the separated compressed-in-dynamic-range high-frequency portion of the recovered luminance signal to provide a cored high-frequency portion with expanded dynamic range and reduced noise.

  • Patent number: 6134373
Abstract: An encoder separates luminance and chrominance signal components of a composite video signal. The frame-to-frame changes in the luminance signal are detected, and a motion signal is derived therefrom. The higher frequency portion of the luminance signal is adaptively de-emphasized in amplitude and folded into the spectrum of the lower frequency portion of the luminance signal, to generate a folded-spectrum luminance signal for modulating the frequency of a luma carrier. In a combined signal, suitable for magnetic recording in accordance with a modified VHS standard, the chrominance signal is translated in frequency to generate a color-under signal in a frequency band below that occupied by the FM luma carrier.

  • Patent number: 5436771
Abstract: A playback equalizing circuit of a digital magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus including a signal processing unit for equalizing, delaying and waveform-shaping a signal picked-up from a magnetic tape via a playback head, a signal outputting unit for comparing a signal processed in the signal processing unit and a predetermined reference signal and outputting the comparison, and a reference signal controlling unit for responding to the level of the picked-up signal and controlling the reference signal in a variable-speed playback mode. The circuit responds to the level variation of a playback signal and controls a reference voltage to improve playback characteristics during such variable-speed reproducing as a high-speed search. In another embodiment, the playback equalizing circuit includes an envelope detecting circuit for detecting the envelope level of a picked-up signal, and an AGC unit for controlling the gain of the envelope level detected from the envelope detecting circuit.

  • Patent number: 5057934
Abstract: The invention provides a FM signal transfer-recording system of VTR including; a RF output signal through the low pass filter of the reproduction set is applied to the pre-amp through the high frequency compensation part of the record set, and a synchronization signal separated at the synchronization-separating part of the reproduction set generates a switching pulse of 30 Hz through 1 switch, horizontal synchronization-separating part and monostable multivibrator of the record set in order to synchronize control pulse part and the drum servo. Recording directly the reproduced RF signal without FM demodulation and modulation and applying the synchronization signal of the reproduction set to the record set so as to synchronize control pulse and the drum servo with the synchronization signal of the reproduction set may be possible and removing the screen blazing generated due to FM demodulation and modulation may be attained according to the present invention.
