Abstract: An air outlet opening apparatus for air conditioners is provided. The air outlet opening apparatus includes a shutter for selectively opening and closing the air outlet formed on an air conditioner body. A pair of support plates is mounted beside the shutter to guide the elevation and lowering of the shutter. The air outlet opening apparatus further includes elevation means for selectively elevating and lowering the shutter. The elevation means includes a pair of elevation members positioned to be slid on the support plates, a drive motor for generating power to move the elevation members, and power transmission means for converting the rotating movement of the drive motor to the simultaneous linear movements of the elevation members.

Abstract: An air conditioner cabinet includes an air inlet and an air outlet. A U-shaped frame is mounted to the cabinet such that parallel vertical legs of the frame straddle the inlet. A pair of links are arranged for vertical sliding movement adjacent respective ones of the legs. Vertically spaced blades are mounted to the frame and extend across the inlet. The blades are mounted to the links such that vertical movement of the links causes the blades to pivot between inlet-opening and inlet-closing positions. The blades pivot through different respective angles whereby the inlet is opened by progressively greater amounts from the top to the bottom of the inlet.

Abstract: An air conditioner includes an air inlet and an air outlet. A door is movable vertically to open and close the air outlet. The door is guided for movement in guide slots which are configured to cause either a lower portion of the door, or the entire door, to move horizontally toward the air outlet during the closing operation. A spring may be provided to bias the closed door against the air outlet.
