  • Publication number: 20200313577
Abstract: Provided are layered assembly systems and methods. The systems can include one or more electroadhesive elements, an electroadhesive element comprising a first electrode and a second electrode, an electroadhesive element being configured to effect electroadhesion between the electroadhesive element and an object, and the electroadhesion of one or more of the one or more electroadhesive elements optionally being independently controllable. The systems can be utilized to performed layered assembly of larger objects, and can do so in a self-correcting manner by repositioning or even removing nonconforming objects from the assembly. The disclosed systems can also be used as sensors to determine an electrical characteristic of one or more objects positioned proximate to one or more of the electroadhesion elements of the positioner system.

  • Patent number: 8808568
Abstract: A magnetorheological material comprises a magnetic particle and a ceramic material, wherein the magnetorheological material is in a dried form and further wherein a portion of the ceramic material is in the form of a nanocrystalline coating over the entire exterior surface of the magnetic particle and another portion of the ceramic material is in the form of a free nanocrystal. A magnetorheological material comprises a magnetic particle having a ceramic material coating over an external surface thereof as a result of a coating process, and a free nanocrystal of the ceramic material in the form of a residual by-product of the coating process.
