  • Publication number: 20240402411
Abstract: It is an object to provide a light guide for display illumination. An out-coupling arrangement for coupling at least part of light propagating in a light guide plate out of the light guide plate comprises a plurality of angle-selective out-coupling elements. Each angle-selective out-coupling element may have a long axis and a short axis and be configured to out-couple light from the light guide plate via refraction at side surfaces of the angle-selective out-coupling element. An angle between the short axis of each angle-selective out-coupling element and a main propagation direction can be a function of a distance of the angle-selective out-coupling element from an in-coupling region.

  • Publication number: 20240319429
Abstract: A light guide which has two main faces, each having at least one surrounding edge; the main faces connected by lateral faces at the edges. The light guide includes three-dimensionally shaped light outcoupling elements on a main face and/or within the volume enclosed by the main and lateral faces. The outcoupling elements are distributed according to a predetermined pattern. Light coupled into the light guide propagates by total internal reflection unless entering or impinging on an outcoupling element and for outcoupling, one of the two main faces is preferred over the other. The outcoupling elements are divided into groups, each group being complementary to the other groups. Group members each have a common blaze angle and a common outcoupling property, which differ from those of the members of the other groups, which results in light being outcoupled with different angular distributions, thereby reducing visible artifacts.

  • Patent number: 11327356
Abstract: A light guide (100) comprises a light guide plate (110) with an illumination region (111). The light guide plate has a first main surface (112) and a second main surface (113) opposite to the first main surface, and comprises an out-coupling arrangement (120) for coupling light (150) propagating in the light guide plate out of the light guide plate through the first and/or the second main surface in the illumination region. The out-coupling arrangement comprises first out-coupling stripes (121) extending over the illumination region, each first out-coupling stripe defining a horizontal extension of a first light channel (141) in the light guide plate and being configured to couple light propagating substantially in a first direction along the first light channel, out of the light guide plate. Adjacent first out-coupling stripes are separated by an intermediate region (124) with light coupling properties substantially different from those of the first out-coupling stripes.

  • Patent number: 8146950
Abstract: A method in a diffractive color system that specifies visual color effects and/or target colors that are formed by mixing together two or more diffractively produced primary colors. The primary colors and the characteristics of the elementary gratings used in producing them are selected in such a manner that they produce the desired exact primary colors particularly in the application-specific lighting and by taking into account, when required, the color of the substrate material and/or other background separately. A diffractive color system implements the method. A diffractive component produces the mixed target color. A product contains one or more diffractive color effects.
