    Abstract: Terminal and method for transporting a still picture uses a moving picture terminal after extraction of a frame unit of still pictures, for example, from a moving picture. The extracted still picture frames can be encoded in a fixed quantizing value and stored before transmission, or the stored frame unit still pictures can be encoded in a fixed quantizing value using an overflow control technique or circuit. Further, the extracted still picture frame unit can be repeatedly sent using a varied quantizing value before transmission. Thus, the terminal and method for transporting a still picture permits transmission/reception of the still picture at a higher resolution than a moving picture regardless of time and place to enhance use of the moving picture terminal.

    Abstract: A device for generating memory addresses is provided that is suitable for generating memory addresses transposed in row/column directions with reference to a data successively stored therein along with a mobile station by using the same, and a method for writing/reading a data. The device includes a counter that generates 22n successive addresses in 2n bitstreams to provide row direction addresses, and a barrel shifter that shifts the generated 2n bitstreams by ‘n’ bits to provide column direction addresses. Thus, circuitry of a picture encoder of the mobile station or of an interleaver in a mobile communication system is reduced, and a faster operation speed is obtained.

Therefore, the present invention provides a DCT operator, in which a range of DCT coefficients for a calculation is controllable among an entire DCT region, and also provides, in another embodiment, a 2D DCT device including a first 1D DCT operator for executing a 1D DCT operation in rows about input image data; a transposition memory for temporarily storing a result of the 1D DCT operator; a second 1D DCT operator for executing a 1D DCT operation in columns about the resultant data processed by the 1D DCT operation in rows and stored in the transposition memory; and a timing control logic unit for controlling operation of the first and second 1D DCT operators and the transposition memory according to a DCT block size control signal given from outside.
