Abstract: A method for controlling functions of a Management Device (MD) included in a home network is provided. The method for controlling the functions of the MD by a Control Device (CD) in a home network system including the CD for controlling functions of an Electronic Device (ED) connected to a home network and the MD, the functions of which are managed by the CD, includes diagnosing at least one function performed by the MD; identifying information necessary to control the at least one function; and transmitting, to the MD, control information for controlling the at least one function, in consideration of the information necessary to control the at least one function.

Abstract: A method, system and apparatus are provided for storing session information in a home network of an UPnP telephony service. The method is performed at a Telephony Server (TS). The method receives a request from a Telephony Control Point (TCP) to store session information while the session is in progress. The session information includes a session status and session related media. The method then divides the session information into meta information and session control information. Thereafter, the method stores the session information in a memory of the TS.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing duplicate saving of a resource between universal plug and play (UPnP) devices, which provide content directory service during content synchronization, are provided. The method includes receiving a change log including metadata about a changed resource from a UPnP device of a transmitter, determining whether the changed resource is a duplicate based on the received change log, and receiving and saving the changed resource according to a designated saving path based on a result of the determination.

Abstract: A method and system for quickly selecting a device desired by a user from among a plurality of devices on a home network and playing content included in a portable device using the selected device are provided. The method includes displaying a device list of the plurality of content player devices based on the received descriptions, receiving selection of an item on the device list from a user, sending a device notification request message to a content player device corresponding to the selected item, and executing device notification using the content player device that has received the device notification request message.

Abstract: A method of giving a monopoly of a call in a call transmission/reception system using UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) includes a telephony server setting a user's authority to manage a session when the telephony server generates the session; the telephony server performing a user authentication when the telephony server receives a call for an action for managing the session from a control point; and the control point performing the action for managing the session if a user of the control point has an authority to manage the session as the result of authentication.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for changing an input type in an input system using UPnP are provided. A control point requests input capability information of input devices, which are to perform input and receives the input capability information. The control point sets up a session by determining a receiving device for receiving an input signal and a transmitting device for transmitting the input signal, using the received input capability information. The receiving device receives input data from the transmitting device, and if an input type of the receiving device is changed, the receiving device transmits information about the changed input type to the transmitting device and receives a report descriptor including information about a format of input data according to the changed input type from the transmitting device.

A control point requests electronic devices in the home network to transmit input capability information, receives the input capability information as a response to the request from the electronic devices, and performs session setup using the input capability information by determining a receiver for receiving input signals and at least two senders for sending input signals. The control point transmits input signals transmitted by the at least two senders to the receiver.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for matching protocols of embedded audio/video (AV) contents. The apparatus includes a remote user interface (RUI) server which receives uniform resource identifier (URI) information of AV contents embedded in user interface (UI) data and protocol information of the AV contents; an RUI client which receives the UI data, which was created using the URI information and the protocol information, from the RUI server; and an AV control point (CP) which receives the protocol information and a control request command for the AV contents from the RUI client, matches protocol information obtained from a media renderer with the protocol information received from the RUI client, and performs a control operation on the AV contents.

Abstract: Provided is a method for synchronizing contents included in devices in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) network. A control point device, which contains local content but cannot provide a content directory service, converts information regarding content objects of the control point device into Digital Item Description Language Lite (DIDL-Lite) format, and manages a mapping table, thereby performing synchronization with a device such as a UPnP media server providing a content directory service, without loading a separate protocol stack.

Abstract: A method of synchronizing a plurality of content-directory service (CDS) devices is provided. The method includes retrieving and discovering N CDS devices in a home network by a control point (CP), transmitting a StartSync message that requests the start of synchronization to a certain CDS device of the N CDS devices by the CP, forwarding a StartPeerSync message that informs remaining N-1 CDS devices of the fact that synchronization will be started by the CDS device that has received the StartSync message, and synchronizing each of the N CDS devices with the remaining N-1 CDS devices, in a home network that includes N CDS devices that provide metadata of multimedia content existing in the home network, and the CP that receives metadata from the N CDS devices and requests the media renderer to replay the multimedia data.

The method at the application server includes generating an error message when an error occurs at/during Open Service Gateway initiative (OSGi) framework runtime. The method also includes converting the error message as a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) event. Moreover, the method includes providing the UPnP event comprising error information to the application server controller. The application server includes a receiver configured to receive a command from an application server controller to install an application in an Open Service Gateway initiative (OSGi) framework available at the application server. The application server also includes a processor configured to generate an error message when an error occurs during installation of the application in the framework and convert the error message as a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) event.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for providing accessible home network information regarding one or more home networks that can be accessed from a remote access (RA) environment. The apparatus includes a channel-creation module which creates a communication channel via which an RA client and an in-home RA server can communicate with each other; an information-management module which issues a request for capability information, a credential list and a profile list to each of the RA client and the in-home RA server; and an information-generation module which generates channel-creation information for creating a communication channel between the RA client and the in-home RA server based on the capability information.

Abstract: A method of effectively managing information shared by synchronizing between a plurality of Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) devices is provided. According to the method, all devices exchange version information of the devices at initial synchronization, and when shared information stored in some of the devices is changed, a device changing shared information transmits new version information to the other devices via an event message, so that all of the devices can maintain the latest shared information. Also, by having a counter indicating an update state of respective parts of shared information, when shared information is changed by a plurality of the UPnP devices, it is easy to recognize which part from among the respective parts of the shared information is the latest.
