  • Patent number: 7505387
Abstract: A method and an apparatus which controls write power of an optical driver by optimizing the number of channels used to drive a laser diode in a write mode while stabilizing the level of a write power voltage at an early stage of the write mode. The method of controlling the write power includes checking whether the write power provided to the laser diode included in the optical driver is stable, controlling the write power by increasing the number of channels used to control the write power so as to provide sufficient write power to drive the laser diode in response to the write power provided to the laser diode being unstable, and controlling the write power by using less channels than the channels used in response to the write power being unstable in response to the write power provided to the laser diode being stable. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the size of a firmware by preventing channels unnecessary to perform a write mode from being used.

  • Patent number: 7369625
Abstract: An apparatus and method for slicing an RF signal and compensating for the slice level of an RF signal reproduced from a disk, which minimizes a block error rate by optimizing the slice level of the RF signal according to variations in symmetry of the RF signal when slicing the RF signal. A comparator converts the RF signal reproduced from the disk into a digital signal by comparing the RF signal with a slice level, a low-pass filter low-pass filters the digital signal and provides the result to the comparator as the slice level, and a slice level compensator compensates for the slice level provided to the comparator by the low-pass filter according to variations in symmetry of the RF signal.

  • Publication number: 20020172106
Abstract: An apparatus for and a method of controlling writing of data in an optical drive which enables the data writing to be restarted at a point where the data writing was stopped due to an error. Data in a buffer is monitored for buffer-under-run and a plurality of servo signals are monitored where the data writing is stopped due to an error. The method includes monitoring for an error while performing writing; checking if a write mode is stopped when an error is detected; storing predetermined data required for restarting the write mode while controlling the write mode of the optical drive to stop, when the write mode is stopped; and restarting the data writing using the stored predetermined data. Accordingly, while performing a writing function, an error is detectable by monitoring the plurality of servo signals and the buffer-under-run, thereby enabling the write mode operation to be controlled more precisely.
