Abstract: A system for executing a program using a virtual machine monitor and a method of controlling the system are provided. The system includes a virtual machine monitor which divides an operating system (OS) into at least one root domain and a plurality of domains having different trust levels, and a trust-management module which is included in the root domain and periodically measures the trust level of an application program currently being executed in the OS. The virtual machine monitor executes the application program in one of the domains in consideration of the trust level of the application program. The method includes dividing an OS into at least a root domain and a plurality of domains having different trust levels by using a virtual machine monitor, enabling the root domain to periodically measure the trust level of an application program currently being executed in the OS, and executing the application program in one of the domains according to the trust level of the application program.

Abstract: Provided is a method of controlling memory access. In a system including a first layer element executed in a privileged mode having a first priority of permission to access the entire region of a memory and second and third layer elements executed in an unprivileged mode having a second priority of permission to access a partial region of the memory, the method of controlling memory access determines whether the memory is accessible for each page that is an address space unit, based on which mode a layer element currently accessing the memory is executed in between the privileged mode and the unprivileged mode; and determines whether the memory is accessible based on which one of the first, second and third layer elements corresponds to a domain currently being attempted to be accessed from among a plurality of domains of the memory.

Abstract: Provided are a method and a system for processing an access to a disk block. The system receives a disk block access request from an OS domain, determines whether the OS domain is permitted to access a disk block with reference to a predetermined block table and processes disk block access of the OS domain according to the determination result. Accordingly, OS domains can share caches without having data copy through memory access control in a virtual machine monitor environment. Furthermore, a device domain controls access to a disk drive so that data corruption can be prevented.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for allocating disc space for recording files, the method including: detecting one or more first sets, each comprising one or more empty sections of the disc that are larger than a predetermined reference value; detecting one or more second sets, each comprising one or more empty sections that are equal to or larger than a size of the data when combined; and allocating, to the data, an optimum set that results in a shortest seek time from a predetermined reference point. Accordingly, it is possible to effectively allocate empty disc space in consideration of both the distances of empty disc sections to a reference point and seek time, thus reducing the time taken to seek target data compared to methods of allocating disc space that only consider the distances of empty disc sections to a reference point.

Abstract: A method of managing data of a file system using a database management system is provided. According to the method, the metadata of the file system is managed using a database management system (DBMS), but writing data to or reading data from a disk is directly performed by the file system according to the method directly performed not through other file systems or DBMSs. In this way, stable transactions are guaranteed for a user, and the user can design a disk allocation algorithm optimized with respect to a multimedia environment.

Abstract: Provided are a flash memory management apparatus and method which divide blocks of a memory into data blocks and i-node blocks and respectively specify storage paths of data, which is stored in the data blocks, in the i-node blocks in order to easily access pieces of the data by searching the i-node blocks. The flash memory management apparatus includes a map search module searching for a map block located at a preset position of a memory among blocks that form the memory and extracting storage paths of one or more i-node blocks; a path search module searching for storage paths of data specified in the i-node blocks based on the extraction result; and a data management module accessing the data through a storage path of the data and performs a transaction on the data.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for displaying a graphic object with low power consumption, more particularly, an apparatus and method for displaying a graphic object with low power consumption that reduces power consumption by adjusting complexity and surfaces properties of the graphic object that is displayed and increasing transmittance of light emitted a light source of a liquid crystal display device. The apparatus includes a remaining power checking unit checking the remaining amount of power that is supplied, a graphics management unit converting properties of the graphic object on the basis of the remaining power, a light source management unit adjusting intensity of light emitted from a light source on the basis of the remaining power, and a display unit displaying the graphic object whose properties are converted with the adjusted intensity of the light emitted from the light source.
