  • Patent number: 10390089
Abstract: This document describes techniques using, and devices embodying, integral program content distribution. These techniques and devices enable a request for program content to be received from an end-user device. In response to the request, an integral version of the requested program content is determined using an indication of a program content transition that corresponds to an apparent broadcast time of the requested program content. The program content can be transmitted to the end-user device as part of a cloud-based digital video recorder (DVR) system.

  • Patent number: 10306323
Abstract: In aspects of fast television channel change initiated from a second screen device, a mobile device implemented as the second screen device can receive a navigation input in a viewport displayed on an integrated display of the mobile device. Video selection options for video content are displayed in the viewport on the integrated display of the mobile device responsive to the navigation input. A content display application on the mobile device can determine video identifiers of the video content for each of the video selection options displayed in the viewport, where each video identifier uniquely identifies a respective video content. The mobile device can then communicate the video identifiers to a first screen device, such as a television display device, that initiates a request to a video content server for initial video data corresponding to each of the video content based on the video identifiers received from the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 10291952
Abstract: In aspects of multiple-device media swap, a mobile device in a video content viewing system displays first video content on an integrated display of the device, and receives second video content without displaying the second video content. The mobile device continues to receive the second video content, without displaying the second video content, while the first video content is received and presented. The mobile device can initiate an instruction to swap from displaying the first video content to displaying the second video content on the integrated display of the mobile device. The instruction also initiates another device of the video content viewing system that is receiving both the first and second video content to swap from displaying the second video content to displaying the first video content.

  • Publication number: 20190028769
Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for presenting media content in response to a channel change request are provided. In some implementations, methods for presenting media content in response to a channel change request are provided, the methods comprising: causing media content provided on a first channel to be presented in a first display area on a first screen; receiving, at a hardware processor, a request to switch to a second channel; in response to receiving the request to switch to the second channel, causing thumbnail content corresponding to the second channel to be presented in the first display area; determining whether media content provided on the second channel is ready for presentation; and in response to determining that the media content provided on the second channel is ready for presentation, causing the media content provided on the second channel to be presented in the first display area.

  • Patent number: 10129586
Abstract: Various implementations process a television content stream to detect program boundaries such as the starting point and ending point of the program. In at least some implementations, program boundaries such as intermediate points between the starting point and ending point of the program are also detected. The intermediate points correspond to where a program pauses for secondary content such as an advertisement or advertisements, and then resumes once the secondary content has run. Once program boundaries are detected, primary content is isolated by removing secondary content that occurs before the starting point and after the ending point. In at least some implementations, secondary content that occurs between detected intermediate points is also removed. The primary content is then recorded without secondary content that originally comprised part of the original television content stream.

  • Publication number: 20180262793
Abstract: In aspects of reverse casting from a first screen device to a second screen device, a mobile device implemented as the second screen device can determine that it is proximate in location to the first screen device, such as a television device, based on both the mobile device and the television device being connected to a local network. The mobile device and the television device can be automatically associated to enable data being synchronized between the two devices based on determining that the devices are proximate in location. The television device displays video content prior to the two devices being associated. The mobile device can then receive contextual information that corresponds to the video content being displayed on the television device. The contextual information can be determined by an automated analysis of the video content at a video content service as the video content is distributed to the television device.

  • Publication number: 20180097859
Abstract: Content capture and distribution systems and techniques are described. In an example, radio frequency signals that carry content are captured by one or more antennas of a content capture system. The content is converted from radio frequency signals the carry the content into an internet protocol format by the content capture system. The converted content is transmitted by the content capture system via a network transfer protocol (e.g., HTTP) for receipt by a content distribution system via a network. The converted content is configured by the content distribution system for streaming via a network streaming protocol. The content is then streamed by the content distribution system via the network using the network streaming protocol for receipt and rendering by at least one client device.
