Patent number: 8612071Abstract: A computerized system and method of managing subway trains along a two-track subway line to allow express travel in combination with local service. Express trains catch up to local trains at express stations along the line, and provision is made to allow the express trains to physically or “virtually” pass the local train at those stations. Embodiments in which the express trains physically pass the local train include direct train-to-train transfer facilitated by side-by-side tracks at the express station occupying reduced footprint. In other embodiments, virtual passing is accomplished by changing the type of service provided by trains at express intervals: a local train “transforms” into an express train and vice versa. Embodiments enable passengers to transfer between trains at express stations so that these “relay” passengers can travel faster than any specific train.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2009Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Integrated Transportation Technologies, L.L.C.Inventor: Joong H. Chun

Patent number: 6592288Abstract: A high traction anti-icing road cover system; the system includes a pair of base magnetic covers, for example steel plates or flexible non-porous magnetic layers, disposed in grooves in a road surface, such as a bridge span or deck, along the expected tire tracks followed by vehicles. A road cover is constructed of a lamination of a flexible non-porous magnetic layer, an intermediate thermal insulating layer and a tube layer including a plurality of bonded parallel tubes. The plurality of tubes extend obliquely across the width of each road cover. Most of the tubes contain a substance that collapses upon the temperature falling below about freezing; other tubes remain extended above the collapsed surface, to provide better traction in the event of icing of the road surface. All of the tubes are somewhat deformable by the weight of passing vehicles, which mechanically breaks forming ice. Selected tubes may contain a heating coil, coupled to a switch that controllably applies current thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Inventor: Joong H. Chun

Patent number: 5176082Abstract: A passenger detection loading and unloading control system is provided for high volume passenger transporters such as subway trains and the like which electronically counts the passengers in each passenger compartment and prepositions passengers that intend to deboard at the next passenger loading and unloading platform and which electronically counts and prepositions a number of passengers at the next platform for boarding. The system further permits simultaneous loading and unloading of passengers without interference with passenger flow. Passengers on the transporter are numerically counted and those passengers intended to deboard the transporter at the next platform are also counted. Signals representing these counted passengers are continuously transmitted to a signal processing facility for processing. A predetermined time schedule for arrival and departure is established for the high volume passenger transporter in relation to each passenger loading and unloading platform.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1991Date of Patent: January 5, 1993Inventors: Joong H. Chun, Hanjoo Lee

Patent number: 4885844Abstract: Apparatus permitting factory tailored manufacture of clothing includes a body covering having measurement tapes which are worn by a person undergoing body measurement. Apparatus is also provided to measure crotch and armpit dimensions. The body dimensions of the person being measured are then inspected by a video camera having an output through a video cassette recorder and a computer capable of transmitting measurement date electronically to a remote location where it is received by receiving computer apparatus that converts the measurement signals to a wire frame representation of the exact body dimensions of the person. These body dimensions are then utilized for adjustment of an adjustable mannequin to the exact body dimensions of the person being measured. Thereafter, clothing is tailored to the adjustable mannequin and can then be delivered to the person without any necessity for additional adjustment.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1988Date of Patent: December 12, 1989Inventor: Joong H. Patent number: 4653960Abstract: A submersible offshore crude oil separator and storage facility for petroleum products which may also form a stable platform which an offshore structure or vessel for drilling or production of petroleum products may be removably located. The buoyancy of the oil separator and storage vessel and platform facility is controllable to compensate for the weight of apparatus to be located thereon and production fluid to be contained therein. An elongated storage chamber defined therein may be in the form of a plurality of vertical compartments to insure the safety and integrity of the system should one of the compartments become ruptured or otherwise develop a leak. The storage chamber is pressure balanced with the hydrostatic pressure of sea water thus permitting it to be manufactured of relatively light weight and low cost materials as compared to vessels designed to withstand hydrostatic pressure and/or internal pressure.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1986Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Inventor: Joong H. Patent number: 4471709Abstract: A pretensioned catenary free deep sea mooring system for marine vessels and structures incorporating a number of elongated rigid tension members and an automated sagging preventer. The tension members are secured in end-to-end relation by connecting links, thus forming an elongated articulated mooring chain that is capable of withstanding predetermined forces in tension. The tension members and the connecting links have a neutral buoyancy in water. The mooring chain is anchored at one extremity to a submerged anchor or pile and extends upwardly in angularly oriented relation to an automated sagging preventer which is connected to the marine vessel or structure. When placed in tension, the neutrally buoyant mooring chain extends in straight line manner from the anchoring point to the connection point at the vessel or structure without forming a catenary. Each mooring chain of the mooring system is pretensioned by means of a constant force application that allows restrained movement of the vessel or structure.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1982Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Inventor: Joong H.
