The manufacturing method includes forming the barrier ribs according to a process including forming a barrier rib forming layer on the first substrate, forming a resist covering the barrier rib forming layer, patterning the resist to form openings thereof corresponding to a predetermined discharge cell pattern, etching the barrier rib forming layer according to the resist pattern, and baking the etched barrier rib forming layer. During the patterning of the resist, an area of an opening distal from a center of the first substrate is formed different from an area of an opening in the vicinity of the center of the first substrate.
