  • Publication number: 20150208349
Abstract: A station, a method performed by a station and a corresponding method performed by an access point (AP) of a network to allow the station to operate a wireless local area network (WLAN) radio in a sleep state until the WLAN radio is ready to receive a beacon from the AP. The station includes a low power (LP) radio configured to receive a wake up signal from an AP of a network to which the station is connected. The station further includes a WLAN radio configured to operate in a sleep state until the WLAN radio receives an indication from the LP radio that the wakeup signal has been received, wherein WLAN radio is further configured to operate in a fully awake state after receipt of the indication to receive a beacon from the AP indicating a data transmission is pending for the station.

  • Publication number: 20150208253
Abstract: A wireless local area network (WLAN) device processes received samples for a radio frequency channel in an unlicensed radio frequency band to detect radio frequency interference from a long term evolution (LTE) wireless communication system. The WLAN device performs a correlation of received time-domain samples to detect the presence of a cyclic prefix for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol used by the LTE wireless communication system. The WLAN device searches for cross-correlation peaks (1) that exceed a peak power threshold value, (2) that a ratio of which exceed a ratio threshold, and (3) that are separated by a time period corresponding to the OFDM symbol. The WLAN device detects the presence of the LTE wireless communication system without decoding the OFDM symbols.

  • Patent number: 9048895
Abstract: Multi-user null data packet (MU-NDP) sounding within multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. Within communication systems including multiple wireless communication devices (e.g., one or more APs, STAs, etc.), channel sounding of the selected communication links between the various wireless communication devices is performed. A MU-NDP announcement frame is transmitted to and received by various wireless communication devices indicating which of those wireless communication devices (e.g., one, some, or all) are being sounded. Then, respective NDP sounding frames are transmitted via the communication links corresponding to those wireless communication devices (e.g., one, some, or all) are being sounded, and sounding feedback signals are subsequently sent back to the original transmitting wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 9007983
Abstract: Channel characterization and training within multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. Within such communication systems, there can be a number of devices (e.g., STAs) that communicate with a single device (e.g., AP). A multi-cast sounding frame may be transmitted from a transmitting device to a number of receiving devices. Appropriate scheduling or ordering of feedback signals from some or all of the receiving devices may be performed explicitly (e.g., sounding frame sent from the transmitting device to a receiving device) or implicitly (e.g., control information sent from the transmitting device to the receiving device, sounding frame sent to the transmitting device from the receiving device). Such characterization and training is with respect to a channel or path in which data will subsequently follow. Such characterization and training can be performed in accordance with group membership (e.g., with respect to only some of the receiving devices).

  • Publication number: 20150071142
Abstract: In order to reduce power consumption of an electronic device during communication with another electronic device in a wireless local area network (WEAN), the electronic device analyzes fields in a given packet prior to a payload of the given packet to look for information that specifies a destination of the given packet. For example, the information may include: a full associated identification (AID) of the destination, a partial media-access-control (MAC) address of the destination; and/or a compressed (MAC) address of the destination. The information may be included in the preamble of the given packet. In particular, the information may replace length information in a high-throughput signal field in the given packet. Moreover, if the destination is other than the electronic device, the electronic device dumps the given packet and changes a power state of the electronic device, thereby reducing the power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20150016332
Abstract: Management frame map directed operational parameters within multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. • Patent number: 8885465
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for utilizing tone grouping with Givens rotations to reduce overhead associated with explicit feedback information are presented. In one aspect of the invention, Givens matrices may be utilized to reduce a quantity of information communicated in explicit feedback information via an uplink RF channel. The explicit feedback information may include specifications for a feedback beamforming matrix that may be utilized when transmitting signals via a corresponding downlink RF channel. The feedback beamforming matrix may represent a rotated version of an un-rotated matrix. The Givens matrices may be utilized to apply one or more Givens rotations to un-rotated matrix. The rotated matrix may reduce the quantity of information communicated in the explicit feedback information. The quantity of information communicated in the explicit feedback information may be further reduced by utilizing tone grouping.

  • Patent number: 8804495
Abstract: Carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) for multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. In wireless communication systems that operate in supporting communications via one or more clusters, appropriate determination of when to begin making such transmissions on one or more clusters is made in accordance with intelligent carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) that may be performed in a number of different ways. In accordance with this, a cluster may be any combination composed of one or more channels among one or more bands. In supporting multi-cluster access, CSMA may be performed in selecting a primary cluster and performing backoff (e.g., countdown) thereon. After backoff is finished for the primary cluster, and the availability of one or more others clusters is checked, transmissions may be made using the available clusters. Alternatively, backoff may be made for each or multiple (a subset of) clusters or even individually for each respective cluster.

  • Patent number: 8743994
Abstract: A method for feeding back transmitter beamforming information from a receiving wireless communication device to a transmitting wireless communication device includes a receiving wireless communication device receiving a preamble sequence from the transmitting wireless device. The receiving wireless device estimates a channel response based upon the preamble sequence and then determines an estimated transmitter beamforming unitary matrix based upon the channel response and a receiver beamforming unitary matrix. The receiving wireless device then decomposes the estimated transmitter beamforming unitary matrix to produce the transmitter beamforming information and then wirelessly sends the transmitter beamforming information to the transmitting wireless device.

  • Patent number: 8738085
Abstract: A method and system for communicating feedback information in a multiple user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) communication system are presented. In one aspect of the method and system, a beamformer station may communicate a feedback information request to a plurality of beamformee stations. The beamformer may subsequently transmit a plurality of signals utilizing the RF channel bands within the multichannel. Each of the beamformees may receive the plurality of subsequently transmitted signals. A beamformee may generate the requested feedback data for each RF channel band within the multichannel. The beamformee may generate a beamforming report, which comprises the feedback data, which is generated across the plurality of RF channel bands in the multichannel. The beamformee may transmit the beamforming report to the beamformer.
