Abstract: A method and system for generating help information associated with a plurality of terms is provided, including receiving a request for information including a search term from a user. The search term is transmitted to a thesaurus and a list of synonyms of the search term is returned. Based on the search term and the returned list, a selection index is generated and may be presented to a user. The user may then select information elements in the selection index to obtain the desired help information. Alternatively, in a multilingual mode, a search request from the user may be transmitted to a plurality of thesauruses.
