Patent number: 9165006Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for managing data storage and access on a computing device. The computing device includes at least a first storage system and a second storage system. A unified file system interface is provided for facilitating interaction with the computing device, the unified file system interface configured as a file system capable of facilitating interaction with content of both the first storage system and the second storage system. Storage of content across the first storage system and the second storage system is managed in accordance with a rule set. File locations within the unified file system interface are independent of locations of corresponding content of the first storage system and the second storage system.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2012Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: BLACKBERRY LIMITEDInventors: Jordan Douglas Barnes, Andrey Feldman

Publication number: 20120310879Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for data synchronization between a first file system and a second file system. File systems may be associated with handheld devices, memory devices, local or networked computer memory, or the like. Interaction with the first and second file systems follow first and second syntaxes, respectively. At least one file system is identified, for example based on a file path prefix thereof. One or more translation modules are selected based on the identification, each translation module configured to translate between a file system syntax and a generic syntax. Appropriate aspects of a set of operations for performing the data synchronization are translated using appropriate translation modules.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 31, 2012Publication date: December 6, 2012Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Ashish KAILA, Jordan Douglas BARNES, Christopher Adam MANLEY

Publication number: 20110138078Abstract: A method for compressing photos for devices may include selecting one or more media items to sync with a mobile electronic device. Profile information of a mobile electronic device may be retrieved, wherein the profile information includes a resolution of a display of the mobile electronic device, available space on the mobile electronic device, and a size of support files stored on the mobile electronic device. An amount of space used on the mobile electronic device after a synchronization of the one or more media items is completed may be estimated. Also, a visual representation of the amount of spaced used may be presented on a display device.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2010Publication date: June 9, 2011Inventors: Jordan Douglas Barnes, Michael Gordon Washburn, David Norman Richard Meisenheimer, Edward Eric Thomas
